India: CBI team conducts raid at JalKal GM's residence in Kanpur

Kanpur: The Delhi team of CBI raided the residence of GM Neeraj Gaur of the Jal kal Department here on Thursday late night.

If sources are to be believed, raids have been conducted In connection with the scam of about 30 crores.

At around 8.30 pm, the local police were also called on the spot along with the CBI team. The CBI team left with several documents in the early hours of Friday.

According to highly placed sources, the CBI team has questioned Neeraj Gaur and his family for hours. Documents have also been confiscated, reports the Hindi news18. 

India: Fast-moving motors on highways remain risky to walkers

Kanpur: Right from Jajmau's Nai Chungi onwards the traffic starts since the early morning. The motorists do not care to mind passing at a fast speed. 

The foot walkers try their best in remaining on the safe side but the speedsters focus only at their momentum not their manner of driving.

Just on Friday morning one careful walker had to stop on the roadside and trotted only after the speeding car passed fastly.

He was returning from his morning walk from the park situated inside the recently developed colony with a leafy overture. 

India: Rajya Sabha bids farewell to 72 retiring members

New Delhi, Mar 31 (PTI) Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday said legislators across the country should be driven by passion, performance and procedural integrity, and desist from disrupting law making bodies.

He also asked them to uphold the honour and privilege bestowed on them by the people.

Naidu made the remarks in the House as the Rajya Sabha bade farewell to 72 members retiring during the March July period this year.

India, France begin mega naval wargame in Arabian Sea

New Delhi, Mar 31 (PTI) India and France on Wednesday began a five-day mega naval wargame in the Arabian Sea in reflection of growing congruence in their maritime security cooperation.

The Indian Navy said various platforms including ships, submarines, maritime patrol aircraft, fighter aircraft and helicopters of the two navies are participating in the Varuna exercise.

India: 1,020 sq km forest cover lost in Arunachal Pradesh in 2021

New Delhi, Mar 31 (PTI) Forest cover in the Northeast reduced by 1,020 sq km in 2021 compared to the area in 2019 mainly due to anthropogenic pressure and developmental activities, the government told the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Responding to a query on loss of forest and tree cover in the area, Minister of State for Environment Ashwini Choubey said that as per the latest India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2021, the forest cover of the region stood at 1,69,521 sq km while the tree cover stood at 4,574 sq km.

India: Police nab gang of six robbers including four minors in Kanpur

Kanpur: In a shocking incident, a woman was dragged and critically injured by miscreants who were trying to snatch her chain and rob her.

Investigating the matter, the West Zone's SWAT team and Panki bust a gang involved in chain snatching and other criminal activities in the city and beyond areas.

Taking action on the matter, a team of the SWAT team, surveillance and police station was formed.

The police have arrested six robbers with dozens of mobiles and taken them into custody. Out of these six, four were minors.

India: Man sets himself on fire and pulls girl to burn also in Kanpur

Kanpur: A man with hearing and speech impairment set himself on fire and pulled a woman towards him with the intention of burning her here on Tuesday.

The man, identified as Vijay, is a resident of Jaipur. The woman, Rachana, is also impaired.

According to the girl's father, "Vijay came in contact with his daughter, Rachana, through social media a few days back and they have been in contact since."

He entered the house with the intention of burning his daughter along with him.

India: Weather reports hint at risk of dehydration & heatstroke

Kanpur: Thursday's weather reports indicate at hazy sunshine and very hot; the danger of dehydration and heatstroke if one happens to hang around outdoor for extended lengths of running time.

The minimum temperature after 1 p.m. dangles around 21° Celsius in Jajmau.

The hotness restricts one to go out during noontime. Not only the hot sun hampers  the body's movement but it reduces bodily energy also.

Kanpur: City has its environmental risks but villages are still prone to the contaminated water. This causes the skin diseases.

Throwing light on this point Dr Archana Raichur said that the contaminated water people use commonly for their daily domestic usage.

She happens to be a scientist fellow at the mechanical engineering department, IIT here.

She learnt about the issue during her stay in the villages for about four months in the year 2019.

Pakistan PM says he will share evidence of foreign meddling with media and allies

NEW DELHI, March 30 (NNN-Bernama) — Pakistan’s embattled Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday he will share with the media and his political allies evidence of foreign meddling against his government.

Pakistan is in the midst of heavy politicking as Imran’s government is facing a no-confidence vote in Parliament.

Speaking at a function in Islamabad, Imran said encountering a “political crisis” in a parliamentary democracy was not unusual but alleged that a plot was hatched by the external powers opposed to Pakistan adopting an independent foreign policy.
