Kanpur: A man with hearing and speech impairment set himself on fire and pulled a woman towards him with the intention of burning her here on Tuesday.
The man, identified as Vijay, is a resident of Jaipur. The woman, Rachana, is also impaired.
According to the girl's father, "Vijay came in contact with his daughter, Rachana, through social media a few days back and they have been in contact since."
He entered the house with the intention of burning his daughter along with him.
He set himself ablaze by pouring petrol all over him and then pulled the girl towards him, which got both of them severely burnt.
They were rushed to Ursala Hospital here and are in critical condition.
The incident took place at Hansapuram in the Naubasta police station area.
A case has been registered in this regard and an investigation is on.
