India: 3 Naxalites shot dead in Jharkhand's Latehar

Ranchi, Mar 26 (PTI) Three Naxalites were shot dead by the security forces at a forest in Jharkhand's Latehar district on Saturday morning, police said.

The Naxalites belonged to Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) -- a CPI (Maoist) breakaway faction, Inspector General of Police (Operations) Amol V Homkar said.

The Naxalites were killed in a gunfight with the forces at a forest in Manika police station area, he said.

Some Naxalites managed to escape taking advantage of the dense forest, he added.

India: Anti-encroachment drive sparks protests in Jammu

Jammu, Mar 27 (PTI) Authorities on Sunday carried out an anti-encroachment drive in different parts of Jammu, triggering protests by people who blocked the Narwal Bypass for several hours, officials said.

Dozens of structures, including buildings and shops, were demolished partially or completely near Bathindi crossing on the Narwal Bypass in the early morning drive by the revenue department amid heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces, they said.

India: New airport to be built on Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway

Kanpur: A new international airport will be built on the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway.

At the same time, the existing Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport will be used for cargo.

The LDA has also sent the City Development Plan made as a vision document along with the proposal for the need of the new airport to the government for approval.

According to the CDP, it will be necessary to start a new airport by the year 2037. 

The capacity of the existing airport is completed.

India: Amid fuel price rise, Maha man commutes to work on horse

Aurangabad, Mar 27 (PTI) In the wake of the fuel price rise and problems in maintaining a motorcycle due to the COVID-19 pandemic-induced restrictions, a man working as a lab assistant at a pharmacy college here in Maharashtra commutes on a horse to his workplace everyday.

The diesel price in Aurangabad is just a few paise short of Rs 100 per litre, while the petrol rate has crossed Rs 115 per litre.

Kanpur DM strict on land Mafia, to free encroached lands

Kanpur: The district administration on Saturday gave orders to register cases against land mafias by taking possession of the encroached land within seven days.

The district magistrate Neha Sharma instructed all the deputy DMs, following review of the works of all the Tehsils in the Collectorate Auditorium here on Saturday.

The strictest action should be guaranteed against the land mafia by running a campaign in all the Tehsils.

India: Kanpur Dehat MLAs' backers hail oath as ministers in UP Cabinet

Kanpur: Perhaps it happens to be a first time experience in UP politics that three of the four MLAs from the Kanpur Dehat district have been sworn in as ministers.

BJP candidate Rakesh Sachan, who won from the Bhognipur assembly seat, has been sworn in as a cabinet minister.

Pratibha Shukla from Akbarpur Rania assembly constituency, and Ajit Singh Pal, from Sikandra assembly seat, have been sworn in as Minister of State.

Locals in the Kanpur Dehat distt. celebrated the maiden elevation of as many as three MLAs as ministers in the UP CM's cabinet.

India: Odisha man beheads 8yr old girl, roams village with severed head

Sambalpur, Mar 25 (PTI) A 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beheading an eight-year-old girl and roaming with the severed head across a village in Odisha's Sambalpur district on Friday, police said.

The motive behind the macabre incident, which sent shockwaves at the village in Jamankira block, is yet to be ascertained, they said.

India: Several leaders from Himachal Pradesh join AAP

New Delhi, Mar 25 (PTI) Several local leaders from Himachal Pradesh, including those from the Congress, joined the AAP in presence of it's national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence here on Friday, the party said.

Welcoming them, Kejriwal said people of Himachal Pradesh, after seeing the work of his government in Delhi, want "an honest and corruption-free government in their state as well".

India: Students now jostle up to buy books at shop for new session

Kanpur: The days are numbered for the end of the vacations. On the declaration of the final exam results the parents were seen standing outside the school office in regard to fee related matters.

Now, they are standing at shop to buy books. This is another ordeal for them. The books remain available on the selected  shop found either near or distant areas. 

Usually the text books are highly priced. But the phrase marta kya nahi karta applies on the parents.
