Pakistan extends condolences on loss of lives in Egypt's tragic road accident

ISLAMABAD, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The government and people of Pakistan extended heartfelt condolences to the Egyptian government and people on the loss of lives and injuries to many in a tragic road accident in southern Egypt, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said.

"We express the deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured," the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

UN slams killings, rights abuses under Afghanistan’s Taliban

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Hundreds of people have been killed in Afghanistan since the Taliban overran the country nearly a year ago, even though security on the whole has improved since then, the United Nations said in a report Wednesday.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan also highlighted the poor situation of women and girls since the Taliban takeover and how they have been stripped of many of their human rights under Afghanistan’s current rulers.

7,500 trees to be planted across UK to celebrate 75 years of British Pakistanis’ achievements

ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (APP): Pakistan’s High Commission in London launched “The Legacy Project” to plant 7,500 trees across the UK and establish a welfare fund to celebrate the achievements of British Pakistanis during the last 75 years.

The Legacy Project was launched as a collaborative effort by the British Pakistan Foundation (BPF) in partnership with the National Trust, World Congress of Overseas Pakistanis (WCOP), The Pakistan Society, and a host of other British Pakistani organizations.

OIC secretary general, Pakistan’s permanent representative discuss cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (APP): Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha on Tuesday received Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the OIC Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and discussed the areas of mutual cooperation.

Held at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, the meeting was a follow-up on the implementation of the resolutions adopted by the 48th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers held in Islamabad, on March 23, 2022.

Pakistan: FS for Afghan govt to address int’l community’s expectations on inclusivity, rights

ISLAMABAD, Jul 18 (APP): Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood on Monday urged the Afghan government to address the international community’s expectations regarding inclusivity, respect for the rights, including girls’ education; and effective counter-terrorism measures.

The foreign secretary, in a meeting with China’s Special Envoy on Afghanistan Ambassador Yue Xiaoyong, also stressed the importance of de-freezing of Afghanistan’s foreign reserves.

Earthquake in eastern Afghanistan injures 10 people

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Taliban has confirmed that at least 10 people were injured after an earthquake struck eastern Gayan district in Paktika province.

Abdul Wahid Rayan, director of Bakhtar, Taliban’s news agency, said the quake in the remote area happened late Monday afternoon.

On Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported a magnitude 5.1 quake near Khost.

Pakistan to get USD 4 billion from friendly countries to shore up reserves: Fin Min

Islamabad, Jul 17 (PTI) Pakistan is likely to get USD 4 billion from friendly countries this month to bridge a gap in foreign reserves highlighted by the International Monetary Fund, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has said, two days after the cash-strapped nation reached a deal with the global lender for the revival of a USD 6 billion loan facility.

Ismail on Saturday referred to the shortfall in foreign reserves highlighted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dawn newspaper said.

Pakistan strives to increase women's workforce participation for economic prosperity: president

ISLAMABAD, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Arif Alvi said on Saturday that his country has been making efforts to increase the workforce participation of women for the economic prosperity of Pakistan.

"Women make up almost 50 percent of the country's population and the provision of enabling conditions such as ensuring their safety and security at the workplace and providing quality education and skills to women is the priority of the government and society," the president said while interacting with a delegation of businesswomen here.

Turkish Democracy Day an expression of trust in Erdogan’s leadership: PM

ISLAMABAD, Jul 15 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday said the Turkish Democracy and National Unity Day would always be remembered as an expression of the Turkish people’s unwavering trust in the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“It also reflects Turkish nation’s resolve to protect and uphold democracy,” he said in a tweet. 

The prime minister prayed for the departed souls of the martyrs to rest in peace.

Pakistan: PM exchanges Eid greetings with Iranian president

ISLAMABAD, Jul 10 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday held a telephonic conversation with President of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and exchanged with him Eid greetings besides discussing bilateral relations.

Underscoring the significance of historic ties between the two countries, marked by geographic proximity, shared history and mutual understanding, the prime minister reaffirmed his government’s strong commitment to boost bilateral relations in all areas of mutual cooperation, including trade, energy, electricity and people-to-people contacts.
