US announces $1mln grant for Pakistan to address natural disasters

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (APP): The United States government on Friday has announced a new $1 million grant in support of Pakistan’s ability to address natural disasters, such as the ongoing flooding.

Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), this humanitarian assistance will build the resilience of agricultural communities and would support Pakistan’s disaster management authorities in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan provinces to better respond to future disasters, said a news release.

Pakistan calls on world to pressure India to implement UN resolutions on Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Aug 13 (APP): Pakistan Friday called upon the international community to build pressure on India for implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions for granting Kashmiris the right to self-determination.

Speaking at a weekly press conference, he said, “Pressure needs to be built upon India in order to have the Security Council resolutions implemented which provided for the right to self- determination of the Kashmiri people.”

International economists ask Biden to release Afghan central bank funds

ISLAMABAD, Aug 10 (Reuters) - More than 70 economists and experts, including Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz, called for Washington and other nations to release Afghanistan's central bank assets in a letter sent to U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday.

The letter said foreign capitals needed to return the roughly $9 billion in Afghan central bank assets to Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) to allow the economy to function, despite criticism of behaviour by the ruling Taliban towards women and minorities.

Pakistan: WKAF uses digital trucks messages to highlight HRs abuses in IIOJK

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP): Trucks carrying digital advertising to highlight the gross human rights abuses committed against Kashmiri people by the Indian army in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), rolled on the main boulevards, shopping malls and city intersections across Washington DC, United States.  

The World Kashmir Awareness Forum (WKAF), used these digital advertising trucks in connection with the observance of ‘Youm-e-Istehsal’ to highlight Indian illegal and unilateral steps of August 5, 2019, over IIOJK.

Pakistani PM sets up relief fund for flood-affected people

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday set up a relief fund for flood-affected people, the Prime Minister's Office said.

Sharif passionately appealed to the people, especially philanthropists, to generously help flood-hit people with their donations, the office said in a statement.

Pakistan: 14 MEPs highlight HR abuses in IIOJK; call for dialogue, diplomacy to avoid escalation

ISLAMABAD, Aug 5 (APP): Fourteen members of the European Parliament have written a letter to European Commission’s President Von der Leyen and Vice President Borrell conveying serious concern over the ‘grave and systematic human rights violation of the Kashmiri people.’

The letter signed by 14 members of the European Parliament, said that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) had been subject to “intolerable suppression of their freedom and fundamental rights over the past seven decades”.

India blocks access to Mushal Mullick’s Twitter after she writes to Modi for Yasin Malik’s release

ISLAMABAD, Aug 04 (APP): The Indian government has blocked access to the Twitter account of Mushaal Mullick, wife of Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik after she wrote to Indian prime minister seeking her husband’s release.

“My twitter account has been withheld/blocked in India and IIOJK for raising a voice for my oppressed people of Kashmir under Indian Occupation & Jailed Husband Kashmiri Freedom leader Yasin Malik in response to legal demand,” she wrote on Twitter.

In her tweet, she also used hashtag #NoFreedomInIIOJK and #YasinWifeWritesLetter2Modi.

Pakistan: President telephones COAS; condoles martyrdom of army officers in chopper crash

ISLAMABAD, Aug 2 (APP): President Dr. Arif Alvi on Tuesday telephoned Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and expressed his condolences over the martyrdom of the high-ranking army officers.

He expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of the army officers and soldiers in the helicopter crash while on a mission to provide relief to flood victims of Balochistan, a press release issued here by President’s Media Wing said.

Pakistan supports countering terrorism as per int’l law, UN resolutions: FO

ISLAMABAD, Aug 2 (APP): Following the counter-terrorism operation by the United States in Afghanistan, Pakistan on Tuesday said that it stood by countering terrorism in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.

“We have seen the official statements by the United States and media reports regarding a counter-terrorism operation carried out by the U.S. in Afghanistan,” the spokesperson said in a statement and reiterated that Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
