India: Farmers will head for Parliament if needed: Tikait

Sheopur (MP), Mar 8 (PTI) Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Singh Tikait on Monday said that lakhs of farmers in their tractors would reach Parliament to seek repeal of the three new farm laws if needed.

Tikait, one of the prominent leaders of farmer unions which are protesting against the Centre's new laws on Delhi borders, addressed a huge rally here.

"If needed, we, on lakhs of tractors will reach Parliament to press for the repeal of the three black laws.

India: Madhya Pradesh Assembly passes anti-religious conversion bill

Bhopal, Mar 8 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Monday passed by voice vote a bill that checks religious conversions through marriage or by any other fraudulent means.

The bill earlier replaced the ordinance, cleared by the cabinet in December and promulgated in January, which had provisions of 10 years imprisonment in some cases and hefty fine for violators.

On March 1, state Home Minister Narottam Mishra presented the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Bill 2021 in the House.

India: President performs Narmada aarti along with CJI, MP CM

Jabalpur, Mar 6 (PTI) President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday evening performed Narmada `aarti' at Gwarighat on the banks of the Narmada river near here.

He was accompanied by Chief Justice of India S A Bobde, Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister for Culture Prahlad Patel.

Earlier in the day, the president inaugurated the All India State Judicial Academies Directors' Retreat at Manas Bhawan.

The president arrived here on Saturday morning on a two-day visit to Madhya Pradesh.

India: Labourer, his partners find 14 carat diamond in MP

Panna (MP), Feb 24 (PTI) A labourer and his partners found a 14.09 carat diamond on Wednesday in a mine they had taken on lease near a village in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, an official said.

Experts said the precious stone may fetch up to Rs 70 lakh when it is auctioned.

The labourer, Rampyare Vishwakarma, found the 14.09 carat diamond at the mine located near Krishna Kalyanpur village, said Pannas Diamond Officer Ravi Patel.

The gem will be auctioned in March, he said.

India: 37 dead in MP as bus falls into canal

Sidhi/Rewa (MP), Feb 16 (PTI) At least 37 people, including 16 women, died after the bus they were travelling in fell off a bridge into a canal near Patna village in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district on Tuesday morning, a senior official said, adding that search operations are still going on.

After fishing out 18 bodies initially, rescuers have retrieved 19 more bodies until now, said Rewa Divisional Commissioner Rajesh Jain.

India: Two Naxals killed in encounter with police in MP

Mandla, Feb 13 (PTI) Two Naxals, including a woman, were killed in a gunbattle with police in a forest area of Madhya Pradesh's Mandla district, an official said on Saturday.

The intermittent exchange of fire took place during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, he said.

"Two Maoists, in the age group of 25 to 30, died in the encounter with police. One of them was a woman," Mandla district superintendent of police Yashpal Singh Rajput told PTI over phone.

India: Case against comedian: Two co-accused get interim bail

Bhopal, Feb 12 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday granted interim bail to two men accused of organising a comedy show in Indore, during which stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui allegedly insulted Hindu deities.

Faruqui, who was arrested on January 1 and was in jail since January 2, was set free on bail last week.

India: Man gets 15 years in prison for raping daughter in MP

Jabalpur (MP), Feb 9 (PTI) A special court here on Tuesday sentenced a 52-year-old man to 15 years' rigorous imprisonment for raping his minor daughter.

Special Judge Jyoti Mishra held the man (name not disclosed to protect the victim's identity) guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and relevant sections of the IPC.

Apart from prison sentence, he was also fined Rs 500, said special public prosecutor Ajay Kumar Jain.

The man raped his minor daughter while other family members were away on March 17, 2018.

India: Munawar Faruqui released from Indore central jail

Indore, Feb 7 (PTI) Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui walked out of Indore central jail late on Saturday night, a day after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a case for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

Faruqui was released from the jail after the prison authorities received the order of the Supreme Court, an official of the jail said.

Arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, Faruqui was in Indore jail since January 1.

India: Indore girl wants permission to study law at age 13

Indore, Feb 5 (PTI) Indore Lok Sabha MP Shankar Lalwani said on Friday that he has requested the Union education minister to allow a 13-year-old girl from the city to enrol in a five-year law course despite the age bar.

Tanishka Sujeet cleared her Class 10 exam in 2019 and class 12 exam next year. She wants admission to integrated BA-LLB course, but officials of Devi Ahilyabai Vishwa Vidyalaya said they could not admit her as the minimum age for admission to law course is 18, claimed her mother Anubha.
