India: Another case registered against 'Computer Baba' Namdev Das Tyagi

Indore, Nov 18 (PTI) A case has been registered against religious leader Namdev Das Tyagi, better known as Computer Baba, for allegedly obstructing a construction on a Jain sect's property in Indore district, the police said.

Since the demolition of Computer Baba's illegal ashram on government land ten days ago, three First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered against him.

India: Madhya Pradesh to have `cow cabinet'

Bhopal, Nov 18 (PTI) The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh has decided to set up a "gau cabinet" for the protection and promotion of the cow, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Wednesday.

Opposition Congress said the BJP has forgotten its election promise of creating a separate cow ministry.

"It has been decided to constitute a `gau cabinet' for the protection and fostering of godhan (cow and its progeny) in the state," Chouhan tweeted in Hindi.

India: 10 killed, 20 injured as van overturns in MP

Shivpuri (MP), Nov 13 (PTI) Ten people, including three women, were killed and 20 injured on Friday when their pick-up van overturned near Pohri in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, a senior police official said.

The incident took place around 7.15 pm when the group was returning to their village Dodi from Unawad in Sheopur district after attending a religious program, Shivpuri Superintendent of Police Rajesh Singh Chandel told PTI.

The spot where the vehicle overtured is 33 km from here.

India: MP bypolls: BJP wins 19 out of 28 seats, Cong bags nine

Bhopal, Nov 11 (PTI) The ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh won 19 out of the 28 assembly constituencies, where bypolls were held on November 3, giving it a comfortable majority in the House and providing stability to its eight-month-old government in the state.

The opposition Congress clinched nine seats.

With this, the BJP now has 126 MLAs in the 230-member House, while the Congress has 96 legislators.

Due to the resignation of one more Congress MLA recently, the effective strength of the House is 229 at present.

India: No firecracker ban in MP but avoid Chinese made: Chouhan

Bhopal, Nov 9 (PTI) There is no ban on bursting of firecrackers in Madhya Pradesh during Diwali but those imported from China and crackers with pictures of deities on their packets can not be sold in the state, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Monday.

Chouhan's statement came in the backdrop of some states moving to ban or strictly regulate use of firecrackers this Diwali in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and to curb noise and air pollution.

India: Woman Naxal terrorist with Rs 8 lakh reward killed in MP

Balaghat, Nov 7 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman Naxal, carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on her head, was killed in an encounter with the police in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district, an official said on Saturday.

The encounter took place at Malkhedi jungle under Baiher police station, some 90 km from the district headquarters on Friday night, Balaghat superintendent of police Abhishek Tiwari said.

India: BJP-Cong workers clash in MP bypolls

Dhar (MP), Nov 2 (PTI) BJP and Congress workers clashed in bypoll-bound Badnawar in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district in the early hours of Monday, leaving six with minor injuries, police said.

Vehicles carrying workers of the two parties came face to face in Tilagara, some 60 kilometres from the district headquarters, at around 1am after which the two groups had an altercation, Superintendent of Police Adityapratap Singh said.

India: FIR against ex-Congress leader for making video on BJP MP

Indore, Oct 29 (PTI) An FIR has been filed against a former Congress leader here after a video went viral on social media in which minor girls dressed like Rani Laxmibai were purportedly heard making certain comments against BJP Rajya Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and his family, said a police official on Thursday.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the BJP with a poll officer, a case was registered against former Congress leader Prakash Mahawar and two to three unidentified women on Wednesday evening, Chandrawatiganj police station in-charge Mohan Jat said.

India: woman axes son as human sacrifice in MP village

Panna, Oct 22 (PTI) In a suspected case of human sacrifice, a woman allegedly axed her 24-year-old son to death, claiming that she felt like a goddess, at a village in Madhya Pradesh's Panna district on Thursday, police said.

The incident took place at Kohni village at around 4.30 am, when Suniabai Lodhi attacked her son Dwarka with an axe, said Arun Soni, in-charge of Panna Kotwali police station.

India: New education policy will arrest brain drain, Rs 1.5 lakh crore: Pokhriyal

Indore, Oct 19 (PTI) Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on Monday said the new national educational policy will help arrest brain drain and give a boost to research in higher education institutes.

He was addressing through video conference the 8th convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology Indore.
