India: MP woman ends life after losing mother to COVID-19

Raisen,Apr 22 (PTI) Depressed over the death of her mother due to COVID-19, a 32-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday when the woman jumped from her house on the fourth floor of Himanshu Wings housing complex in Mandideep industrial township, Additional Superintendent of Police Amrit Meena said.

She was critically injured after falling from a height of about 50-feet and was rushed to a hospital where she died during treatment, he said.

India: MP CM asks people to stay indoors till April 30

Bhopal, Apr 18 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday asked people to stay indoors till April 30 to break the chain of rising coronavirus infection.

The CM's appeal triggered speculation that the ongoing "corona curfew", which is in force in many parts of Madhya Pradesh till April 23, maybe extended till April 30.

"It is very necessary to break the chain of the coronavirus infection in view of the rise in the cases...No one should come out of house unnecessarily till April 30," Chouhan said in a statement.

India: 6 die due to low pressure oxygen in MP hospital

Shahdol, Apr 18 (PTI) At least six COVID-19 patients died in the ICU of a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol due to low pressure in medical oxygen supply, an official said on Sunday.

The incident took place at the Government Medical College Hospital here on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

"Out of 62 patients admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward of the medical college's COVID-19 centre, six patients died due to low pressure of liquid oxygen late last night," the facility's dean, Dr Milind Shiralkar, said.

India: In Bhopal crematorium, urns containing ashes pile up

Bhopal, Apr 17 (PTI) As the coronavirus pandemic rages in Madhya Pradesh, there is also an increase in the number of the urns containing ashes of the dead being kept at the Bhopal's only crematorium where the last rites of COVID-19 patients are allowed, an office-bearer of the crematorium said on Saturday.

Bhopal, Apr 14 (PTI) The apparent spike in deaths caused due to COVID-19 has resulted in crematoriums and burial grounds in Bhopal struggling to dispose of bodies as these facilities have started facing several issues, including that of space crunch.

The number of bodies being brought to the crematoriums or burial grounds has been witnessing a surge over the last few days, say the operators of these establishments.

India: Man gets life term for raping five-year-old girl in MP

Bhopal, Mar 24 (PTI) A court in Berasia town in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal district on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape of a five-year-old girl in 2017.

Additional sessions judge Gyaneshwari Kumre awarded the sentence to 28-year-old Beni Prasad Nagar after holding him guilty under various IPC sections, including 376 (rape), and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 4,000 on him, the prosecution said.

India: Sunday lockdown in MP extended to four districts

Bhopal, Mar 24 (PTI) Alarmed over rising coronavirus cases, the Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday decided to impose Sunday lockdown in the districts of Betul, Chhindwara, Ratlam and Khargone, an official said.

Sunday lockdown is already in force in Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced this while briefing his ministerial colleagues on the coronavirus situation after the cabinet meeting, said the official.

The lockdown will begin at 10 PM on Saturday and end on 6 AM on Monday.

India: Lockdown in Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur on Sundays

Bhopal, Mar 19 (PTI) In view of the spurt in coronavirus cases, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced lockdown in Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur cities every Sunday till further orders, an official said here.

The lockdown will be in force from Saturday 10 PM to Monday 6 AM.

Besides, all educational institutions will remain closed in these three cities till March 31, said a public relations department official on Friday.

Madhya Pradesh on Friday reported 1,140 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths.

India: Farm stir will go on till laws are repealed: Tikait

Jabalpur, Mar 15 (PTI) Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait on Monday said the farmers' stir against the Centre's agri marketing laws would go on till December and future course of action would be decided then if the laws are not repealed.

Speaking at a rally in Sihora, some 45 kilometres from the district headquarters, Tikait said the MSP mechanism was irrevocable and farmers would not sell their produce below it.

India: MP court sentences man to 10 yrs RI for raping minor

Mandsaur, Mar 10 (PTI) A local court in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur district has sentenced a 23-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

Second additional session judge Nisha Gupta on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Sureshnath Kalbelia under section 376 (rape) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and Protection of Children from the Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), special public prosecutor Nitesh Krishnan said.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on the accused.
