India: Gandhi's killer Godse's photograph garlanded at Hindu Mahasabha event

Gwalior, Oct 2 (PTI) Photographs of Mahatma Gandhi's assassins Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte were garlanded at a seminar organized by the local unit of the Hindu Mahasabha here on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters after the event held on Gandhi's 152nd birth anniversary, a leader of the right-wing organization also blamed him for Partition.

We have nothing to do with Gandhi, but Gandhi and Mohammad Ali Jinnah were responsible for the partition of the country, Hindu Mahasabha national vice president Jaiveer Bharadwaj said.

India: Centre's farm laws take away right to approach court: Digvijaya

Bhopal, Sep 27 (PTI) Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh on Monday took part in the 'Bharat bandh' called by groups protesting against the Centre's farm laws and said these legislations take away the right to approach court for grievance redressal.

Talking to protesting farmers during the shutdown here, Singh said the right to move court was available even when Gandhiji was leading the Champaran movement against the British, but the three agri marketing laws passed by the Centre compelled a farmer to approach the sub divisional magistrate rather than the judiciary.

India: Temple priest beaten to death in MP

Dhar (MP), Sep 14 (PTI) A 58-year-old priest of a temple was allegedly beaten to death by some unidentified persons who were loitering outside the premises in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district, police said on Tuesday.

While the attack took place at Gyanpura village, about 7 km from the district headquarters, late on Sunday night, the priest Baba Arundas succumbed to his injuries on Monday, an official said.

India: BJP leader and five others held for raping 17-year-old girl in MP

Bhopal/Dindori (MP) Sep 9 (PTI) Two political party workers from Madhya Pradesh's Dindori were among six persons arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl from Haryana, police said on Thursday.

The Bhopal police have arrested Dindori district's BJP office-bearer Manish Nayak and JD-U's Dindori district president Dinesh Avadhiya, Amit Soni, a petrol pump owner, and two women in the case, he said.

India: Hindu minors bashed up by Hindutva mob on suspicion of `love jihad'

Dewas (MP), Sep 4 (PTI) A 16-year-old Hindu boy who had run away with a girl was beaten up by a group of men in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district allegedly on suspicion that it was a case of so-called love jihad', police said on Saturday.

No arrest has been made so far in connection with the incident which took place four days ago. Both the girl and the boy hail from Uttar Pradesh, police said.

A video of the incident also went viral on social media.

India: MP govt to release 339 prisoners on Independence Day

Bhopal, Aug 9 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh government will release 339 prisoners, including five women, from various jails on Independence Day, state minister Narottam Mishra said on Monday.

Inmates are released on August 15 annually by taking into account good conduct as well as other laid down parameters.

"These prisoners have completed 14 to 20 years of their sentences and the rest is being pardoned. They have learned life skills during their term. I hope they will be able to rehabilitate themselves in society once released," he added.

India: BJP minister on inflation, says no happiness in life without problems

Chhatarpur (MP), Jul 10 (PTI) Putting a philosophical spin on inflation, Madhya Pradesh minister Om Prakash Sakhlecha said here on Saturday that without problems, happiness in life can not be savored.

"In life, problems give us the idea of happiness. If there is no problem, there is no sense of happiness," said Sankhlecha, the minister for MSME, Science and Technology.

India: IAS officer arrested in MP for 'forging' court orders

Indore, Jul 11 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Police have arrested an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer for allegedly forging two orders of a local court in a case of assaulting a woman in Indore, officials said on Sunday.

The accused had allegedly got promoted from the State Administrative Service to the IAS cadre with the help of one of the forged orders pertaining to his acquittal in the assault case, they said.

Indore, Jul 6 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set up a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the Rafale fighter jet deal, like the one which scrutinized the Bofors deal in the 1980s.

The Rajya Sabha member alleged large-scale corruption in the form of payment of commission in the Rafale deal.

India: Man axes father, wife to death over illicit affair

Jabalpur, Jul 3 (PTI) A 35-year-old man allegedly axed his father and wife to death after he found them in a compromising position at their house in a village in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

Santosh Lodhi killed his father Aman Lodhi (65) and wife Kavita (32) with an axe at their house in Gokalahar village, about 50 km from the district headquarters, on Friday night, additional superintendent of police (Rural) S S Baghel said.
