India: MP junior doctors threaten strike amid COVID-19 outbreak

Bhopal, May 29 (PTI) Some 3,000 junior doctors in Madhya Pradesh have threatened to go on strike if their demands like free treatment for them and their families in case they contract COVID-19 are not met by Sunday.

MP Junior Doctors Association president Arvind Meena told PTI on Saturday that, if the demands are not met, its members will abstain from work from Monday and stop COVID-19 duties by Tuesday.

India: Unclaimed body taken in garbage vehicle for last rites in MP

Dewas, May 23 (PTI) The body of a 21-year-old man, who allegedly committed suicide, was taken for last rites in a garbage vehicle in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district, prompting the local civic administration to suspend its health official and terminate the services of three temporary employees.

The incident took place in Sonkatch town on Saturday following which a video of it went viral on social media.

In the video, some civic employees were purportedly seen dumping the body in an empty garbage vehicle.

India: MP woman killed for giving birth to 4 girls, and dowry

Shivpuri, May 14 (PTI) A 28-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her husband and in-laws for giving birth to four girls, last of which was born just three months ago, and also over dowry in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district, police said on Friday.

Savitri Baghel was strangled to death allegedly by her husband Ratan Singh, his father Kilold Singh and mother Benoo Bai at their home in village Dindoli, some 80km from the district headquarters, on Thursday, Police Inspector Ramraja Tiwari said.

India: MP minister bats for 'yagya' (a fire ritual) to get rid of pandemics

Indore, May 12 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Culture Minister Usha Thakur has said 'yagya' is an ancient method of purifying the environment and claimed such a practice is being followed since ages to get rid of pandemics.

Amid the ongoing second wave of COVID-19, Thakur on Tuesday appealed to people to perform "havan" (a fire ritual) at one time.

India: Petrol at Rs 102-mark in Raj, MP after 4th straight day of price hike

New Delhi, May 7 (PTI) Petrol price on Friday scaled to Rs 102 per litre in some parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh after rates were raised for the fourth straight day after ending of more than two-week-long hiatus during assembly elections in states like West Bengal.

On Friday, petrol price was hiked by a steep 29 paise per litre and diesel by 31 paise a litre, according to a price notification by state-owned fuel retailers.

This took the price of petrol in Delhi to Rs 91.27 per litre and that of diesel to Rs 81.73.

India: BJP leader Vijesh Lunawat dies at 55 tested +ve to COVID-19

Bhopal, May 5 (PTI) Senior BJP leader and a key man behind the party's mega events in Madhya Pradesh, Vijesh Lunawat died following cardiac arrest at a hospital here on Wednesday, family sources said.

Lunawat (55) had not been well for quite some time and had recently tested positive for COVID-19, they said.

The BJP leader is survived by his wife and two daughters.

India: COVID-19 patient commits suicide in Bhopal hospital

Bhopal, May 4 (PTI) A 45-year-old COVID-19 patient allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the fifth floor of a private hospital in Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal on Tuesday, police said. The man, a resident of Awadhpuri area here, allegedly jumped off the fifth floor of the private Chirayu Hospital building at around 7:30am, said Sandhya Mishra, in charge of Khajuri Sadak police station.

India: 'Corona curfew' in MP extended till May 7

Bhopal, Apr 28 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh government extended the 'corona curfew' in the state till May 7 to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission, a minister said on Wednesday.

At present, 'corona curfew' is underway in several districts of the state, including Bhopal, Indore and other prominent cities, till May 3.

"Chief Minister (Shivraj Singh Chouhan) has decided to extend the corona curfew (or Janata curfew) till May 7," state Home Minister Narottam Mishra said here.

India: MP dials UP after after oxygen tanker gets stuck in UP

Bhopal, Apr 25 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh administration has dialled senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh government after a tanker carrying life-saving oxygen for hospitals in Sagar district was held up during transit through Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

A tanker from Bokaro in Jharkhand was on its way to Sagar, where the availability of medical oxygen was at a critical level, two officials with knowledge of the matter said.

The MP government had sourced oxygen from steel plants in Bokaro.
