India: Man gives half his property to his pet dog in will, nothing for children

Chhindwara (MP), Dec 31 (PTI) A 50-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district has bequeathed half his property to his dog in his will.

Om Narayan Verma, resident of Badibaba village in Chand tehsil, has four daughters and a son. But he is no mood to leave anything for the children.

India: 'Freedom of Religion' Bill, to prohibit religious conversion, gets state cabinet nod in MP

Bhopal, Dec 26 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Bill 2020, which provides for prison term of up to 10 years and fine of Rs 1 lakh for conversion through marriage or by any other fraudulent means, got the state cabinet's approval on Saturday, Home Minister Narottam Mishra said.

He claimed that once enforced, it will be the most stringent law in the country against religious conversion carried out by fraudulent means, allurement or threat.

India: Congress MLAs to arrive MP Assembly on tractors on Dec 28

Bhopal, Dec 24 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Congress MLAs will arrive at the state Assembly here on tractors on December 28 as a mark of protest against the Centre's three new farm laws and rise in fuel prices, a party legislator said on Thursday.

The three-day winter session of the state Assembly will begin from Monday.

MP Congress president Kamal Nath has asked all the party MLAs in the state to reach the Congress office in Bhopal on December 28 morning.

India: BJP to organise meetings of farmers in MP about new farm laws

Ujjain, Dec 14 (PTI) The BJP will organise meetings of farmers in various divisions of Madhya Pradesh from Tuesday to dispel "misconceptions" being spread about the Centre's three new farm laws, state Agriculture Minister Kamal Patel said.

Enacted in September, the three farm laws have been projected by the Centre as major reforms in the agriculture sector that will remove the middlemen and allow farmers to sell anywhere in the country.

India: Doctors protest in MP against `mixopathy'

Indore, Dec 11 (PTI) Protesting against the Union government's decision to allow post-graduate practitioners of Ayurveda to be trained in surgical procedures, nearly 8,000 doctors, mostly from the private sector, struck work in Madhya Pradesh on Friday.

The protest did not have much impact on the functioning of big hospitals in the state.

India: Two women Naxal terrorists killed in separate encounters in MP

Balaghat (MP), Dec 12 (PTI) Two women Naxals were killed in separate encounters with police in a forest area of Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district bordering Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, an official said on Saturday.

While one of the Naxals was killed around 11 pm on Friday, another one was eliminated around 7 am on Saturday, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Tiwari told reporters.

India: Dalit man killed for 'touching' food in MP village

Chhatarpur (MP), Dec 9 (PTI) A 25-year-old man died after he was allegedly assaulted by two men apparently for touching their food while they were partying together in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased Devraj Anuragi, a Dalit, had gone to attend a party hosted by the accused, Bhura Soni and Santosh Pal, in Kishanpur village under Gaurihar police station area, about 100 kms from the district headquarter, on Monday night.

India: Bharat Bandh: Protests held in MP's Hoshangabad district

Bhopal, Dec 8 (PTI) Protests were held in Seoni-Malwa area in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday morning in support of the 'Bharat Bandh' called by farmer unions against the Centre's new agri laws.

The protesters under the banner of the Krantikari Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (KKMS) raised slogans and demanded repeal of the new agriculture laws.

A Congress spokesman said the party will hold demonstrations at headquarters of various districts around 11 AM.

India: RSS-affiliate BKS suggests 4 amendments to farm laws

Jodhpur, Dec 4 (PTI) RSS-affiliate Bharatiya Kisan Sangh proposed on Friday four amendments to the three contentious central farm laws to make it "farmer-friendly" and address the apprehensions that have led to protests.

Thousands of farmers have gathered at Delhi's gateways to demand a repeal of the new farm laws. The protesters are worried the legislations would eliminate the safety cushion of a minimum support price (MSP), while rendering ineffective the wholesale market system that ensures earnings for various stakeholders in the farm sector.

India: BJP Gov in MP considering tax for 'gaumata' welfare: CM

Bhopal/Agar Malwa, Nov 22 (PTI) The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh is planning to levy a cess to raise money for the welfare of the cow, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday.

Addressing a public meeting in Agar Malwa, Chouhan invoked "Indian culture" while speaking about the "gaumata" tax.

"I am thinking of imposing some minor tax to raise money for the welfare of the 'gaumata' (cow) welfare and for the upkeep of cow sheds....Is it alright?" the BJP leader asked while the people replied in the affirmative.
