India: 50% of Bhopal cops suffer from diabetes and hypertension

Bhopal, Oct 16 (PTI) A recent health camp conducted to test the fitness levels of police personnel in Bhopal revealed that 50 per cent of Bhopal policemen suffer from diabetes and hypertension.

Around 200 personnel of Bhopal police were examined at the health camp conducted by a Delhi-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) at Madhya Pradesh police's Police Training and Research institute on Monday.

During the health camp, 50 per cent of policemen were diagnosed for diabetes and hypertension, and 70 per cent suffered from stress.

India: VHP leader shot dead in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh

Mandsaur, Oct 9 (PTI) A local office-bearer of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) was shot dead by unidentified persons in Mandsaur town of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, the police said.

It is suspected that it was the fall-out of a business dispute.

Three motorbike-borne men shot Yuvraj Singh Chauhan (37) near a tea shop in Geeta Bhawan area and fled, district superintendent of police (SP) Hitesh Choudhary said.

Chauhan, who was shot in the chest, died on the spot, the SP added.

India: MP man given death penalty for raping, killing girl

Indore, Sep 30 (PTI) A court here on Monday sentenced a man to death for kidnapping, raping and killing a four-year-old girl.

Special Judge Savita Singh sentenced Hani Athwal (22) alias Kakku to death after finding him guilty under section 376-A of Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as 363 (kidnapping) and 302 (murder), District Prosecution Officer Mohammad Akram Sheikh told reporters.

Besides, he was also convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the prosecutor said, adding that 36 witnesses were examined in the case.

India: 2 Dalit kids lynched for defecating in public

Shivpuri, Sep 25 (PTI) Two Dalit children were allegedly beaten to death by some people for defecating in front of a panchayat building in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district on Wednesday, police said.

The incident took place in Bhavkedhi village in the morning, Sirsod police station's inspector R S Dhakad said.

The two children, Roshani (12) and Avinash (10), suffered serious injuries in the incident and were rushed to the district hospital where doctors declared them dead, he said.

Efforts were on to arrest the culprits, he said.

India: BJP to protest against MP Congress govt on Friday

Bhopal, Sep 18 (PTI) The BJP will stage protests across Madhya Pradesh on Friday against the Congress-led state government's "apathetic attitude" towards the flood-affected people, a saffron party leader said on Wednesday.

The Congress government has "turned a deaf ear" to the problems being faced by cultivators and other people due to heavy rains and subsequent floods in parts of MP, state BJP Chief Rakesh Singh alleged.

Gwalior (MP), Sep 4 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh Police has booked a local Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader for selling a booklet titled 'Dhara 370 - Setu Ya Surang' at a protest here.

The booklet on the abrogation of Article 370 was being sold at a protest organised by the Muslim Adhikar Manch to demand the cleaning of a local pond on Tuesday.

India: Man rapes teenage neighbour in slum toilet

Bhopal, Aug 28 (PTI) A 30-year-old man has been arrested within hours after he allegedly raped his 15-year-old neighbour in the bathroom of a slum in Bhopal in the wee hours on Wednesday, police said.

The accused Dharmendra Malviya allegedly forced his way into the bathroom around 2 am and committed the crime, said TT Nagar police station in-charge Sanjiv Chowkse.

Both are residents of a slum.

Malviya has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape.

Further investigation is underway.

India: Teenager booked for raping seven-year-old girl

Tikamgarh, Aug 27 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 15-year-old boy in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Tuesday.

The alleged incident occurred at Ladpura, around 85 kms from here, on Monday evening when the girl was alone in a field, said Orchha police station sub-inspector Gaurav Rajoriya.
