India: 2 beaten up for carrying beef, cops arrest them and 5 attackers

Seoni/Bhopal, May 25; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Suspected cow vigilantes thrashed two persons in Madhya Pradesh's Seoni with sticks, accusing them of carrying beef, following which five accused have been arrested, police said Saturday.

The group of five 'gau rakshaks' also allegedly forced one of the victims to beat up a woman accompanying them with chappals, a police officer said.

Police said that the three persons who were beaten up were arrested on May 22 as possession, transportation or sale of beef is illegal in Madhya Pradesh.

India: Man offers poison-laced drink to family; three dead

Rewa (MP), May 25 (PTI) A 45-year-old man allegedly gave poison-laced soft drink to his family leading to his, his wife's and their son's death, Rewa district police said Saturday.

The incident took place at Ghuma Katra village.

Ashok Prajapati allegedly mixed some poisonous substance in a bottle of soft drink and offered it to other members of the family last night, said Ram Singh Kanjar, in- charge of Garh police station.

India: MP CM says ready for floor test

Bhopal, May 20 (PTI) Hours after the BJP in Madhya Pradesh asked the Congress government to prove its majority and wrote to state governor for convening a special session of the state Assembly, Chief Minister Kamal Nath Monday said he was all prepared to go for floor test.

Nath also claimed that he had proven majority of his coalition government "four times" in the last five months, and is ready to do so again.

India: BJP worker shot dead by Congress leader in MP

Indore, May 19 (PTI) A 60-year BJP worker was allegedly shot dead by a Congress leader in Paliya village in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place some time before the polling for the Indore Lok Sabha seat came to an end, police said.

Talking to PTI, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ruchivardhan Mishra said Congress leader Arun Sharma allegedly shot dead Nemichand Tanvar outside his house possibly with a country-made gun from close range around 5.30 pm.

India: Voters boycott polling at six booths in MP

Bhopal, May 19 (PTI) Voters boycotted polling at six booths in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday over some local issues, a senior election official said.

Efforts were on to pursuade the voters to exercise their democratic right, MP's Chief Electoral Officer V L Kantha Rao told reporters here.

Polling was underway in the eight constituencies of Dewas, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Indore, Khargone and Khandwa since 7 am, he said.

India: Computer Baba booked for MCC violation

Bhopal, May 16 (PTI) Bhopal police Thursday registered an FIR against self-styled godman Namdev Das Tyagi alias Computer Baba for allegedly violating the model code of conduct (MCC), an official said on Thursday.

The FIR was registered at the directions of the district election officer.

Computer Baba had organised a "hath yoga" camp in Bhopal to campaign for Digvijaya Singh, Congress candidate from Bhopal, who had also participated in the event.

India: Boy mauled to death by stray dogs

Bhopal, May 11 (PTI) A six-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in the city, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Friday evening in Shiv Sangam Nagar, police said.

"Six stray dogs attacked the boy, Sanju Jatav, when he was playing on a ground near his house. His mother, who was nearby, raised an alarm and tried to shoo away the dogs. But the canines attacked her as well," Awadhpuri police inspector M L Bhati said.

Sanju, who bled profusely as a result of the attack, was rushed to a hospital. However, he died on the way, he said.

Indian Polls: Saffron dominates Digvijaya's roadshow in Bhopal

Bhopal, May 8 (PTI) Seeking to counter the BJP's Hindutva plank, hundreds of sadhus chanted "Jai Shree Ram" as they took part in a roadshow held on Wednesday by Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh, who is contesting the Lok Sabha poll from Bhopal seat in Madhya Pradesh.

Singh along with religious leader Namdev Tyagi alias Computer Baba led the roadshow from Bhawani Chowk to Lal Parade ground, moving through main roads of the city, to seek votes.

India: 134 foreign animals rescued from illegal zoo

Indore (MP), May 4 (PTI) Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Saturday raided a zoo here and rescued 134 foreign animals, allegedly brought into the country illegally.

On a tip-off, DRI officials raided the zoo located in Malharganj area, run illegally by the NGO Karuna Sagar, an official release said.

Creatures found in the zoo included a South American Marmoset, Australian Iguanas, a Persian cat, Red Eared Singapore Slider Turtle, North American Alligator Gar, South American Guinea Pig and South American Macaw.

India: Man arrested for rape and killing of 12-year-old girl

Bhopal, May 1 (PTI) A young man was arrested here Wednesday for allegedly raping and killing a 12-year-old girl.

Avinash Sahu (18) was arrested for offences of rape and murder under the IPC and under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, police said.

The girl was visiting a Jain temple with her 16-year-old aunt Tuesday evening when Sahu, who knew the latter, took the girl away to a secluded spot when the aunt was not around, police said.
