India: Minor immolates herself citing rape, harassment

Betul (MP), Feb 26 (PTI) A 14-year-old girl died on Wednesday after immolating herself, alleging rape and harassment by three persons in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district, police said.

The Class 8 student poured kerosene and immolated herself at her home in Devgaon village on Tuesday evening and died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nagpur, additional superintendent of police Shraddha Joshi said.

Protests in Bhopal, Indore against Trump's visit

Bhopal/Indore, Feb 24 (PTI) Organisations representing the 1984 gas tragedy survivors on Monday staged a protest in Bhopal against the visit of US President Donald Trump claiming his dispensation was not extending help in the ongoing trial into what has been widely acknowledged as the world's worst industrial disaster.

Rachna Dhingra of the Bhopal Group for Information and Action said protesters at Bhopal's Iqbal Maidan registered their anger at the US government not serving summons issued by a court in MP's capital city to Dow Chemicals, an American multi-national company.

India: Madhya Pradesh govt hikes honorarium of Muslim clerics

Bhopal, Feb 25 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday more than doubled the honorarium paid to Muslim clerics and muezzins in the state.

Chief Minister Kamal Nath gave his nod to a proposal to hike the honorarium of imams from Rs 2,200 to Rs 5,000 per month and that of their deputies - muezzins - from Rs 1,900 to Rs 4,500 a month, a government officer said.

India: Girl raped by four teenagers in MP

Rewa (MP), Feb 24 (PTI) A 14-year old girl was allegedly raped by four teenage boys in a village in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Monday.

All the four accused have been detained under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), following the incident which occurred on Saturday afternoon.

India: NPR not to be implemented in Madhya Pradesh, says Nath

Bhopal, Feb 17 (PTI) The Congress government in Madhya Pradesh on Monday asserted there is no move "at present" to undertake the proposed National Population Register (NPR) update exercise in the state.

Chief Minister Kamal Nath Monday said his government is not going to implement the NPR in the state.

India: Five held for hunting chital, transporting its meat in MP

Jabalpur (MP), Feb 12 (PTI) Five persons were arrested on Wednesday from Jabalpur district in Madhya Pradesh for transporting meat of a chital in an SUV after hunting it in neighbouring Katni district, police said.

A police officer said the accused had hunted the deer in the forest areas of Sleemanabad in Katni district and were transporting the meat in their SUV when it was stopped for checking in the wee hours near Kudwari village.

India: Madhya Pradesh Cabinet passes resolution against CAA

Bhopal, Feb 5 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday passed a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act and sought its abrogation, contending the new law was against the Constitution's secular character.

The resolution was passed during the state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Kamal Nath, public relations department minister P C Sharma told reporters.

India: 12-year-old raped by neighbour in Bhopal

Bhopal, Feb 4 (PTI) A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal city, police said.

The incident took place on Monday night when Manoj Prajapati (37), father of a three-year-old girl, lured the minor with a chocolate when she was playing outside her house, inspector Sudesh Tiwari of Ashoka Garden police station said.

India: Man held for raping minor grand-niece in MP

Rajgarh (MP), Feb 1 (PTI) A 60-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his six-year-old grand-niece at Biaora city in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The police arrested the accused, who is the brother of the victim's grandfather, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Biaora's sub-divisional officer of police N K Nahar said.
