India: Will bring back one lakh labourers by trains: MP CM

Bhopal, May 1 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Friday that one lakh labourers from the state stuck in various parts of the country will be brought back by special trains.

Railways are running a special train from Nashik in Maharashtra carrying 350 labourers to Bhopal on Friday night.

India: Students from J&K stuck in MP wait for return home

Indore/Bhopal, May 1 (PTI) A large number of Kashmiri students stranded in parts of Madhya Pradesh due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown have been waiting for their safe return to the native places.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh recently wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting him to make necessary arrangements for the nearly 400 Kashmiri students stuck in Madhya Pradesh.

India: COVID-19 cases in Indore Central Jail rise to 19

Indore, Apr 28 (PTI) Nine more prisoners lodged at the Central Jail in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city have tested positive for coronavirus, an official said on Tuesday.

With this, the total number of those who contracted the infection in the jail in last 14 days has gone up to 19, including 17 prisoners and two jail guards, prison superintendent Rakesh Kumar Bhangre said.

India: Man held for raping six-year-old girl in Damoh

Damoh/Bhopal, Apr 24 (PTI) A 22-year-old man was arrested for the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl at a village in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district, police said on Friday.

The police followed several leads to arrest the man involved in the crime late on Thursday, Damoh district's superintendent of police (SP) Hemant Chouhan said.

India: Six-year-old girl raped in MP, her eyes damaged by accused

Damoh (MP), Apr 23 (PTI) A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh by an unidentified person, who also damaged her eyes, a police official said on Thursday.

The incident took place at a village in Jabera tehsil on Wednesday evening when the minor was playing outside her house with other children, police said.

India: Shifting prisoners could spread COVID-19

Bhopal, Apr 13 (PTI) Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath has expressed concern over shifting of some NSA detainees from one district to another despite the lockdown, as some of them later tested positive for coronavirus.

Nath expressed apprehension this could spread the viral disease in other districts.

India: Cops thrash two junior doctors in Bhopal

Bhopal, Apr 9 (PTI) Two junior government doctors, including a woman, have alleged they were beaten up by police personnel who accused them of "spreading coronavirus", leading the authorities to take disciplinary action against a constable and order a probe into the incident on Thursday.

The doctors suffered injuries in the attack, which they said, took place close to AIIMS Bhopal - their workplace - when they were on way to home after duty on Wednesday evening.

India: Two doctors among 14 test coronavirus positive in Bhopal

Bhopal, Apr 10 (PTI) Fourteen more persons, including two women doctors, tested positive for coronavirus in Bhopal on Friday, taking the number of COVID-19 patients in the state capital to 112 and overall tally in Madhya Pradesh to 440, a health official said.

Test reports of these persons came on Friday morning and they were found to be infected with the viral disease, he said.

Efforts were on to quarantine them and start their treatment, the official said.
