India: 152 people brought back to MP from UAE in special flight

Indore, Jul 12 (PTI) A total of 152 people, including a child, who were stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a long time due to COVID-19, returned to Madhya Pradesh on Sunday night, an official said.

Under the Vande Bharat mission, an Air India flight from Sharjah landed here at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport at 8.40 pm, nodal officer for the prevention of COVID-19 in Indore district, Amit Malakar said.

"A total of 152 passengers, including a child, came back to their home country through this special flight," he said.

India: Terrorist Vikas Dubey arrested in MP

Bhopal/Lucknow, Jul 9 (PTI) Gangster Vikas Dubey, wanted in connection with the Kanpur ambush in which eight policemen were killed, was arrested from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, an official said.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra confirmed the development. He told reporters that Dubey is in the state police's custody in Ujjain.

"Yes, we have arrested him and he is in our custody," the minister said, without revealing how police nabbed him.

India: Madhya Pradesh cabinet expanded: 28 ministers take oath

Bhopal, Jul 2 (PTI) The Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh cabinet was expanded on Thursday with induction of 28 ministers, including a dozen loyalists of BJP MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, whose exit from the Congress in March led to fall of the Kamal Nath-led regime in the state.

Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office to the new ministers at a function in the Raj Bhawan.

The event was organised by following COVID-19 protocols.

India: BJP MLA from Rewa tests positive for coronavirus

Rewa (MP), Jun 29 (PTI) A BJP MLA from Rewa in Madhya Pradesh test positive for novel coronavirus on Monday, district chief medical health officer RS Pandey said.

Three legislators, two from the BJP and one from the Congress, have been detected with the infection this month.

The swab sample of the MLA was collected on Sunday and contract tracing had begun as per protocol, Pandey informed.

The MLA had earlier said he was going into self- isolation after a fellow legislator from Mandsaur tested positive for the virus on June 20.

India: Minor girl raped by criminal in MP, critical

Raisen (MP), Jun 27 (PTI) A five-year old tribal girl has been raped allegedly her 30-year-old history-sheeter relative out on bail in a village in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The assault has left the girl critically injured who has been admitted in the district hospital, an officer said, adding that the accused has been arrested.

India: BJP MP and accused terrorist Pragya Thakur faints at party event

Bhopal, Jun 23 (PTI) BJP's Lok Sabha member from Bhopal Pragya Singh Thakur fainted during an event organised at party office here on Tuesday to pay tributes to Bharatiya Jan Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookherjee on his death anniversary.

The incident occurred when Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other senior BJP leaders were paying tributes to Mookherjee at the event held at the party's state headquarters here.

India: Khandwa district judge tests COVID-19 positive

Jabalpur, Jun 8 (PTI) A lower court judge has tested positive for coronavirus in Khandwa district, leading the Madhya Pradesh High Court administration to assign his duties and that of others to the session judge of Burhanpur on Monday, an official said.

After the district judge tested positive for COVID-19, his colleagues were quarantined as a precaution, he said.

India: Govt Ayurvedic college official held for taking bribe

Nagpur, May 20 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) here has arrested officials of the Government Ayurvedic College and Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran in separate cases of bribery.

Bandu Desai Pawar (55), who was holding charge as assistant director, Ayurveda, had allegedly demanded bribe from a man who had applied for appointment as a sanitation worker at Dayabhai Maoji Majithia Ayurvedic College, Yavatmal.

For the appointment, Pawar's permission was needed, an ACB official said.

India: Locusts attack crops in western MP, agri centres alerted

Bhopal, May 21 (PTI) Huge swarms of locusts from Rajasthan have entered parts of western Madhya Pradesh, posing a threat to crops in the central state, an official said on Thursday.

An advisory has been issued to 22 agriculture science centres on how to fight the menace, Jabalpur-based Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalayas extension services director Dr Om Gupta told PTI.

The locusts initially entered Rajasthan from Pakistan where they flew in from Iran last year.

India: Eight home-bound migrants killed in road accidents in MP

Bhopal, May 16 (PTI) Eight migrants including four women were killed in three separate road accidents in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, police said.

At least 29 others were injured in these accidents which took place in Sagar, Guna and Barwani districts, police said.

Six persons -- four women and two men -- were killed in an accident near Sagar, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Sanghi.
