India: Schoolteacher held in molestation case

Udaipur, Feb 19 (PTI) A physical training instructor of a government school was arrested for allegedly molesting a minor girl in the district on Wednesday, police said.

The accused, Prem Singh (45), posted at a government senior secondary school in Chansda area, had allegedly molested the girl on Tuesday.

She narrated the incident to her family members after which her relatives and villagers reached the school, demanding action against the accused.

The accused was arrested under Section 354-A of the IPC and the POCSO Act.

India: Uber driver held for sexually harassing woman in Gurgaon

Gurgaon, Feb 19 (PTI) An Uber driver was held for allegedly sexually harassing a woman passenger, police said here on Wednesday.

The accused had allegedly masturbated in his car in the presence of the woman, who was a Delhi University student, they said.

The woman had taken the cab from a Sector 51 locality here to the Huda City Centre Metro station on Tuesday.

India: Farmers' stir in Noida enters 10th day

Noida (UP), Feb 19 (PTI) Scores of young men held a shirtless protest here on Wednesday as part of an ongoing farmers' agitation against the Noida Authority.

The protest, which began on February 10, is being headed by the Bharatiya Kisan Sangathan (BKS). The farmers have been pressing for demands, including additional 64 per cent compensation for their land acquired by the Noida Authority over the years and a plot of 10 per cent the size of the total land acquired.

India: 19 killed in bus-container lorry collision in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore, Feb 20 (PTI) Nineteen people, including six women, were killed when a Kerala state government bus collided head-on with a container lorry near Tamil Nadu's Avanashi town in Tirupur district, 40 kms from here, on Thursday, officials said.

The bus was going to Thiruvananthapuram from Bengaluru, while the lorry was coming from the opposite direction on the Coimbator-Salem Highway when the mishap occurred at 4.30 am, police said

Of the 48 passengers in the bus, 19 died on the spot and remaining sustained injuries.

India: Not 70 lakh, but one lakh to attend Trump roadshow

Ahmedabad, Feb 20 (PTI) Nearly one lakh people are expected to line up along the 22-km route of the roadshow of US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad on February 24, officials said on Thursday.

The number is much less than what the US president has been claiming.

In a recent video, Trump said, "7 million (70 lakh)" people will be there on the roadshow route.

Nagpur, Feb 20 (PTI) Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appeared before a Nagpur court on Thursday in connection with a complaint seeking criminal proceedings against him for alleged non-disclosure of criminal cases in his election affidavit in 2014.

The senior BJP leader was given the last chance by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate P S Ingle to appear before the court on Thursday.

India: Man held for 'offensive' FB post on Yogi Adityanath

Noida (UP), Feb 20 (PTI) A trader has been arrested in Greater Noida for allegedly sharing a Facebook post deemed "offensive" against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officials said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Chand Quraishi, is a resident of Jewar town and was arrested on Wednesday evening, they said.

When contacted, Quraishi said he shared the post by "mistake".

India: Law student raped by lawyer, accomplice in UP's Bareilly

Bareilly (UP), Feb 20 (PTI) A law student was allegedly raped by a lawyer and his accomplice inside his chamber in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district last week, police said on Thursday.

The incident happened on February 15 in Bahedi area of the district, Bahedi SHO Pankaj Pant said.

Itanagar, Feb 20 (PTI) Reaffirming the government's commitment to protecting the unique culture of the Northeast, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday misinformation was spread after abrogation of Article 370 that identical fate awaited Article 371 in the region.

Most of the states that have special provisions under Article 371 are in the Northeast. These provisions are aimed at preserving their cultural heritage and customary laws.
