India: Religion teaches us harmony, not divide and rule policy: Mamata

Kolkata, Feb 20 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said religions have taught India to live in harmony and not take recourse to divide and rule.

The spirit of harmony was preached by Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Swami Vivekananda, Guru Nanak, Lord Buddha, Gandhiji and Netaji and others, she said.

India: 50-yr-old man sentenced to life for raping minor girl

Kota, Feb 21 (PTI) A 50-year-old man was awarded life sentence by a POCSO court here for raping a nine-year-old girl while he was staying at her parents' house in May 2019.

Following a trial that lasted nearly nine months, the court of Special Judge Kailash Chand Misra also imposed a penalty of Rs. 30,000 on the convict, who is a government employee in the Archaeological department, while delivering the verdict on Thursday

Westinghouse set to sign pact with Indian firm for nuclear reactors during Trump visit

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - U.S. energy firm Westinghouse is expected to sign a new agreement with state-run Nuclear Power Corporation of India for the supply of six nuclear reactors during U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit next week, officials said, aiming to kickstart a long-running project.

The agreement will lay out timelines and the lead local constructor for the reactors to be built at Kovvada in southern India and also address lingering concerns over India’s nuclear liability law.

Kanpur: Board exams are going on in different allotted centres of the city areas. A strange sight is seen at the time of the end of the examination. One, two or three representatives of the varied coaching institutes taking the brochures remain busy in distributing either to the examinees or the guardians.

As these young men come a little earlier at the centres they do not forget to first hand over the brochures to the guardians. If we minutely study at the guardians' face they sometimes do not fathom the content. But they prefer to take the copy.

India: SC to consider hearing plea against bail granted to alleged rapist BJP leader Chinmayanand

New Delhi, Feb 20 (PTI) The Supreme Court Thursday said it would consider hearing next week a plea against the bail granted to former BJP lawmaker Swami Chinmayanand by the Allahabad High Court in a rape case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde was told by senior advocate Colin Gonsalves that the plea challenged the Allahabad HC order granting bail to Chinmayanand earlier this month.

The bench said it may consider listing the plea of the victim next week.

India: Wipro expects 15 pc of domestic lighting sales from smart segment in 2 years

India: Poet, journo held over recital of anti-CAA poem at govt

Bengaluru, Feb 19 (PTI) A poet and a journalist have been arrested in connection with recital of a poem against CAA and NRC at a government sponsored function in Koppal district of Karnataka last month, police said on Wednesday.

The arrests were made based on a complaint from a BJP functionary alleging that Siraj Bisaralli, a poet had recited an anti-CAA poem at 'Anegundi Utsava' in Gangavathi town of Koppal district in January and Rajabaxi, editor of an online news portal uploaded it on social media.

India: Bar owner held for sexually assaulting employee

Mumbai, Feb 19 (PTI) A 45-year-old bar owner was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a bar singer in the eastern suburb of Ghatkopar here, police said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, the police nabbed Suresh Shetty, who allegedly sexually assaulted her after calling her to the bar on Wednesday morning, an official said.
