India: Dalit girl alleges sexual harassment by 3 youths in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Feb 19 (PTI) A 16-year-old Dalit girl has alleged she was sexually harassed by three youths when she was on her way to a brick kiln at a village in Shamli district, police said on Wednesday.

They said the incident happened at Bhabisa village under Kandhla police station on Tuesday when the girl was going to the brick kiln site with lunch for her kin.

India: Naxal killed in encounter with police in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Feb 19 (PTI) A Naxal was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Wednesday morning, police said.

The skirmish took place in a forest near Tondamarka village when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on a counter-insurgency operation, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P told PTI

India: Dozens of crude bombs found in West Bengal village

Bolpur (WB), Feb 19 (PTI) Dozens of crude bombs were found in front of a panchayat office, a Trinamool Congress party office and a bank in Birbhum district on Wednesday, police said.

Several bombs lay scattered on the ground in front of the closed gate of the local panchayat office, said people of Sian Muluk village near Bolpur.

The crude bombs were also found before the party office and a nationalised bank early in the morning.

Bomb squad have been informed, police said adding that the matter is being investigated.

India: SC-appointed interlocutors visit Shaheen Bagh

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) The Supreme Court-appointed interlocutors visited Shaheen Bagh on Wednesday to initiate talks with the protesters after the court suggested that the agitation should be held in an alternative site where no public place is blocked.

The protesters have been on a sit-in against the new citizenship law for over two months.

Talking to reporters, the interlocutors, Sanjay Hegde and Sadhana Ramachandran, said they had come to Shaheen Bagh to listen to people who had assembled in large numbers.

India: Thousands take to streets in TN for anti-CAA protest

Chennai, Feb 19 (PTI) A large number of anti-CAA protesters, majority of them Muslims, held a massive protest against the amended Citizenship Act at Chepauk here, even as agitations were held across Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.

The protest here was held under the aegis of the Tamil Nadu Islamia Iyakkangal Matrum Arasiyal Katchigalin Koottamaippu, a federation of state Muslim outfits and political parties.

Three Seperatist Killed In Indian-Controlled Kashmir Gunfight

NEW DELHI, Feb 19 (NNN-PTI) – Three militants were killed today, in a fierce gunfight with government forces, in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The gunfight broke out in Tral area of Pulwama district, about 44 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

A senior police official, posted in Pulwama said, “The operation was carried out jointly by the army, paramilitary and police.”

Trump says working on a very big trade deal with India, but will take time

11 Indian Navy soldiers arrested spying for Pakistan

Delhi; 19 January 2020 (UMM):  National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested 11 Indian Navy soldiers caught spying for Pakistan’s ISI. According to Nav Bharat Times, these soldiers were honey trapped by the ISI and ended up transferring Indian Navy's secret information.

Two others, not part of Indian Navy, were also nabbed.

India: CRPF commando injured in naxal encounter dies

Raipur, Feb 18 (PTI) A CRPF commando, who was injured in an encounter with Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district last week, died at a private hospital in Raipur on Tuesday, police said.

Head constable Ajit Singh succumbed to bullet injuries in his abdomen while undergoing treatment at Sri Narayana Hospital at around 11.25 am on Tuesday, an official said.

India: Activist seeks thorough probe in CBI judge Loya's death

Mumbai, Feb 18 (PTI) A group of citizens on Tuesday demanded a thorough inquiry into the death of special CBI judge Brijgopal Harkishan Loya in 2014.

The group has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, seeking a time-bound probe into the death of Loya.
