India: SC to pass order on Wednesday on Sanjiv Bhatt's plea seeking recusal of Justice MR Shah

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its order on a plea by sacked IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt seeking the recusal of Justice MR Shah from hearing his petition to submit additional evidence to support his appeal in the Gujarat High Court against conviction in a 1990 custodial death case.

Pakistan: Imran Khan arrested from outside Islamabad High Court, says his party

Islamabad, May 9 (PTI) Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan was on Tuesday arrested by paramilitary Rangers while he was present at the Islamabad High Court for the hearing of a corruption case, his party said.

The chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who travelled from Lahore to the federal capital Islamabad, was taken into custody by the Rangers when he appeared in court on anti-graft charges, his PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said.

Palestinians rebuild school in occupied West Bank after it was demolished by Israel

08 May 2023; MEMO: Palestinians rebuilt their school in the West Bank village of Bayt Ta'mar just a few hours after it was demolished by Israeli occupation, Wafa news agency reported on Sunday.

The village is located in the east of the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem. It has been facing increased settler aggression in recent weeks.

Tens of thousands join protests against Israeli judicial overhaul

07 May 2023; MEMO: Tens of thousands of Israelis joined protests across the country on Saturday against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bitterly disputed plans to tighten controls on the Supreme Court, reports Reuters.

The planned overhaul, which would give the government control over naming judges to the Supreme Court and let parliament override many rulings, was paused after opponents organised some of the biggest street protests ever seen in Israel, now in their 18th consecutive week.

Israel demolishes Palestinian school in occupied West Bank

07 May 2023; MEMO: Israeli army forces on Sunday demolished a Palestinian school in the occupied West Bank for lack of a building permit, according to a local official, reports Anadolu Agency.

Hassan Brijieh, the head of the so-called Colonisation and Wall Resistance Commission in Bethlehem, said Israeli forces and bulldozers moved into the town of Jibb Al-Deeb, east of Bethlehem city, and demolished the donor-funded school.

Bosnia remembers 1,601 children killed during siege of Sarajevo

06 May 2023; AA: Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday commemorated 1,601 children killed during the siege of Sarajevo between 1992 and 1995. 

A memorial service was held in the capital with the same number of students, representing the child victims.

Fikret Grabovica, president of the Association of Parents of Children Killed during the siege of Sarajevo, said the perpetrators were not punished and none of them were even prosecuted.

India: UP HC directs judges of district, sessions courts to dispose of bail applications in 2 weeks

Prayagraj (Allahabad), May 5 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has asked judges of all district and sessions courts in the state to dispose of bail applications within two weeks in light of the recent Supreme Court judgment in the case of Satender Kumar Antil vs CBI.

The directive was issued in a communication by the registrar general of the high court, addressed to all district and sessions judges in Uttar Pradesh.
