UN insists on 'sunset of the Israeli occupation' before considering termination of ongoing probe

21 June 2023; MEMO: The United Nations has resisted pressure from a US-led group who are demanding a "sunset" clause to the UN's Commission of Inquiry (COI). Members of the world body are insisting that the UN would like to see a "sunset of the Israeli occupation" before its inquiry into alleged war crimes committed by the apartheid state is terminated.

39 feared dead after boat sank on Canary Islands migrant route

21 June 2023; MEMO: As many as 39 people are feared dead after a ship sank in the waters between Morocco and Spain's Canary Islands on Wednesday, according to the Spanish migrant organisation, Walking Borders, Anadolu Agency reports.

The Spanish Coast Guard has confirmed one death, so far, according to Spanish news agency, EFE.

The ship was carrying some 60 people.

Over 50 Syrian protesters wounded by Israeli army in occupied Golan Heights

22 June 2023; MEMO: At least 50 Syrian Druze were wounded, four left in a critical condition, as they protested against Israeli plans to be built a wind farm in the occupied Golan Heights, news agencies reported.

Thousands of Syrians protested for the second day yesterday against the establishment of a new wind farm near the town of Majdal Shams.

France expresses 'deep concern' about Israel killing Palestinians in Jenin

21 June 2023; MEMO: France has expressed its "deep concern" about Israel killing Palestinians in the Jenin refugee camp this week. Five Palestinians were killed during an Israeli military offensive in the refugee camp, and 91 others were wounded, 23 of them critically. Two of the wounded have since died in hospital, including 15-year-old Sadeel Ghassan Turkman, whose death was announced this morning.

Israel forces storm Al-Aqsa, force Palestinian worshippers out

20 June 2023; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque last night in occupied East Jerusalem and removed hundreds of Palestinian worshippers, including the Islamic Waqf guards.

Israeli soldiers then locked the gates leading to the mosque and prevented access to Palestinians arriving for night-long prayers to mark the first day of Dhu Al-Hijja, the final month in the Islamic calendar, reported Wafa news agency.

Palestine: Eyewitnesses call Israel military raid on West Bank a 'war'

20June 2023; MEMO: The Palestinians who witnessed the Israeli army raid on Monday in the northern West Bank city of Jenin, which killed six Palestinians and injured 91 others, likened it to a "war", Anadolu Agency reports.

Mohammed Abu Hatab, 39, a resident of Jenin, told Anadolu on Tuesday that they woke up early in the morning to the sound of heavy gunfire, thinking "there was a war".
