UN body condemns US, others for treatment of Guantanamo inmate

Abd Al Rahim Al Nashiri could face the death penalty, if convicted, for his alleged role in the attack.

Singer Dua Lipa slams UK officials' 'small-minded' stance on migrants

04 June 2023; MEMO: Famous singer Dua Lipa criticized British government officials' comments on migrants, slamming them as "shortsighted and small-minded," Anadolu reports.

Lipa, a Grammy-winning performer who was born to Kosovar-Albanian parents, expressed the personal "hurt" caused by the way the government has discussed Albanians and called for a greater sense of empathy.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, Lipa warned such rhetoric has a negative impact.

More than 1,000 children killed by Israel in Gaza in 5 wars, say rights groups

US accessed thousands of Apple phones in spy plot, says Russia

01 June 2023; MEMO: Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said, on Thursday, it had uncovered a US National Security Agency (NSA) plot using previously unknown malware to access specially made so-called backdoor vulnerabilities in Apple phones, Reuters reports.

The FSB, the main successor to the Soviet-era KGB, said several thousand Apple phones had been infected, including those of domestic Russian subscribers.

USA: FBI launches fresh probe into Julian Assange case: Report

01 June 2023; MEMO: Despite the Australian government's diplomatic efforts to secure the release of Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange, in the UK, US authorities have launched a new investigation into his case, Anadolu Agency reports.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has sought an interview with acclaimed novelist, Andrew O'Hagan, who remained close to Assange while working as a ghost writer on the whistleblower's autobiography, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

EU report warns of rising Israeli pressure to rid Jerusalem of Palestinians

02 June 2023; MEMO: A confidential European Union report warned of what it described as "drastic acceleration" of Israeli pressure on the Palestinian population in Jerusalem in the past year, the Spanish newspaper El Pais reported.

The report, which was seen by El Pais, was delivered to the EU's External Action service (EUAA) by the diplomatic representatives in Jerusalem and Ramallah of nearly all EU member states in addition to the EU delegate.
