India: UP farmer ends life after stray cattle destroy crop

Fatehpur (UP), Oct 6 (PTI) A 60-year-old farmer killed himself Tuesday allegedly after stray cattle destroyed crop at his field in a village here, police said.

Harishchandra Nishad, a resident of Walipur Ramsagara village here, had left home early morning to guard his crop against stray cattle but he was found hanging from a tree in the field, Station House Officer of the Kishanpur police station Pandhari Saroj said.

His son Chavinath told police that Nishad was dejected after stray cattle destroyed the crop.

India: Farm owner booked for raping woman labourer in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Oct 6 (PTI) A 22-year-old tribal woman has been allegedly raped by a farm owner at a village in Kutch district of Gujarat, police said on Tuesday.

The alleged incident had occurred on September 16 in Ratnal village in Anjar taluka but the FIR was registered only on Tuesday as the accused Ranchhod Ahir had threatened to kill husband of the woman if she disclosed the incident, an official said quoting the complaint.

The couple was working as labourers at Ahir's farm at the time of the incident.

India: Ahmedabad sanitation workers abstain from work to protest against Hathras gang-rape

Ahmedabad, Oct 6 (PTI) As many as 20,000 sanitation workers of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Tuesday abstained from work in protest against the alleged gang-rape and death of a Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, a union leader said.

While the Ahmedabad Municipal Servants' Association (AMSA), the apex body of sanitation workers in the city, claimed their one-day "strike" to be successful, a senior civic official said that normal work was not affected.

"Not everyone was absent during today's strike.

Turkey accuses France's Macron of ‘sowing Islamophobia’

India: Six-year-old girl raped by relative in UP's Hathras, dies

Aligarh (UP), Oct 6 (PTI) Even before the outrage over the gang rape-murder case of a Dalit woman in Hathras settled, a six-year-old girl from the district, who was allegedly raped by her relative, died during treatment at a hospital in Delhi, police said Tuesday.

The minor was held captive at a relative's house in Iglas area of Aligarh district and was rescued on September 17, Senior Superintendent of Police Muniraj G said.

Palestine to start talks with Guterres about international peace conference

05 Oct 2020; MEMO: Palestine’s Permanent Observer to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, is to start consultations with the international organisation’s Secretary-General about an international peace conference. Mansour told Voice of Palestine that he is scheduled to begin separate consultations next week with Antonio Guterres and members of the UN Security Council to discuss such a conference.
