Iran officials strike defiant note to new US sanctions

10 Oct 2020; MEMO: Downplaying the impact of new US sanctions on Iranian banks, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Friday said the move is a “political propaganda” to appease domestic audience in the US, Anadolu reports.

Speaking to the head of Iran’s Central Bank, Rouhani struck a defiant tone, saying the new US sanctions targeting Iranian financial institutions “cannot break the resistance of Iranians”.

India: UP woman killed over dowry

Budaun, Oct 10 (PTI) A 23-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her husband following an altercation over dowry, police said on Saturday.

According to a police complaint lodged by the woman's father Nathulal, his daughter Pravesh Kumari got married to Rambaran three years ago and Rs 6 lakh was given to Rambaran's family as dowry at that time.

He claimed that Rambaran's family had been demanding an additional Rs 2 lakh, which led to frequent disputes between the husband and wife.

Anti-nuclear activist Sister Ardeth Platte dies at 84

Washington, Oct 10 (AP/PTI) Anti-nuclear activist Sister Ardeth Platte, a Dominican nun who spent time in jail for her peaceful protests, died in her sleep on September 30. She was 84.

Sister Carol Gilbert, who confirmed Platte's death, lived with her at a Catholic Worker house in Washington, D.C. Gilbert said Platte had participated in a street corner demonstration against nuclear weapons just a few days before her death.

Israel's parliament to ratify UAE deal on Monday: Netanyahu

09 Oct 2020; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that he will bring diplomatic accords with the United Arab Emirates before the Israeli parliament on Oct. 12, Reuters reports.

Israel and the UAE signed agreements in Washington in September to normalize diplomatic ties and to forge a broad new relationship.

Netanyahu said he intends to get cabinet and parliamentary ratification for the deal, which marks a strategic realignment of Middle East countries against Iran.

Israel occupation to demolish Palestine school in West Bank

09 Oct 2020; MEMO: An Israeli court ruled to demolish a newly-constructed Palestinian school located in the centre of the West Bank.

Anadolu Agency quoted anti-settlement activist Abdullah Abu Rahma stating that the Jerusalem District Court on Wednesday rejected the injunctive relief submitted in favour of the Ras El-Teen School in eastern Ramallah.

US hits Iran's financial sector with fresh round of sanctions

09 Oct 2020; MEMO: The United States on Thursday slapped fresh sanctions on Iran’s financial sector, targeting 18 Iranian banks in an effort to further shut Iran out of the global banking system as Washington ramps up pressure on Tehran weeks ahead of the US election, Reuters reports.

Thirteen Whitist terrorists arrested in Michigan for plotting kidnapping of Gov Gretchen Whitmer

Delhi; 09 Oct 2020 (UMMN): Thirteen whitist terrorists have been arrested for plotting to kidnap the Michigan Governor, and attacking the state capitol building to incite violence.

In a sweeping action FBI arrested seven members of Wolverine Watchmen militia group and six others for the plot. The six men charged in federal court are identified as Adam Fox, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris, Brandon Caserta, all of Michigan, and Barry Croft of Delaware.

Israel blocks Palestinian access to farmland ahead of olive harvest

07 Oct 2020; MEMO: Israel has in recent days issued 63 military orders to close areas and land planted with Palestinian olive trees, covering an area of 3,000 dunams (3 square kilometres) across the occupied West Bank ahead of the olive harvest season.

The military orders bore the signature of the commander of the occupation army in the West Bank, were dated 17 September 2020, and entitled “Closing down an area – preventing entry and stay.”
