Israel extends travel ban for Palestinian activist

27 Aug 2021; MEMO: An Israeli court has upheld a travel ban imposed upon Palestinian activist Hanadi Al-Halawani, who has been barred from leaving the occupied West Bank to travel abroad until 19 January next year. The renewed ban was handed to her yesterday after she was summoned for interrogation by the Israel Defence Forces in occupied Jerusalem.

Hamas rejects Jordan settlement projects

28 Aug 2021; MEMO: Chief of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh announced on Friday that his movement rejects settlement projects for Palestinians in Jordan, news agencies reported.

Haniyeh and former Hamas chief, Khaled Mashaal, visited Amman to attend the funeral of former Hamas official Ibrahim Ghosheh, who passed away at 85 years old.

Biden reaffirms US plan to reopen Jerusalem consulate

28 Aug 2021; MEMO: During his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett at the White House, US President Joe Biden reaffirmed his administration's plan to reopen the US Consulate General in Jerusalem, news agencies reported on Friday.

At the same time, Biden expressed his opposition to the Israeli evictions of Palestinian families in occupied Jerusalem's neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

PA urges Biden to curb Israel's colonial project

27 Aug 2021; MEMO: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to curb Israel's colonial project in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement coinciding with the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to Washington, the ministry pointed out that this provides a golden opportunity to rein-in the settler-colonial state.

UK accused of discriminatory treatment as dual nationals left stranded in Afghanistan

26 Aug 2021; MEMO: Lawyers and campaigners have claimed that British nationals of Afghan origin are not being evacuated from Kabul.

According to the Guardian, roughly 50 dual British-Afghan citizens waved their UK passports outside Kabul airport yesterday but were overlooked for evacuation.

Immigration lawyers have said that they are being treated as second-class citizens in the evacuation efforts.

India: Farmers' national convention to mark 9 months of protest

New Delhi, Aug 26 (PTI) The national convention by farmers to mark completion of nine months of their agitation against the three contentious farm laws began at the Singhu border on Thursday.

The two-day-event that will see participation from 1,500 delegates across organisations of farmers, women, youth, and labourers, is aimed at intensification and expansion of the ongoing movement against the Centre's farm laws.

India: 3 Kashmiris killed by Indian Sec Forces in Baramulla district of Indian Administered Kashmir

Srinagar, 24 Aug 2021: Three Kashmiris were killed on Tuseday by Indian security forces in Sopore area of Baramulla district of the Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar said the total number of Kasmiris killed in this year has crossed 100.

US waiving restrictions on military aid to Egypt puts it at risk of complicity in rights abuses: Amnesty

25 Aug 2021; MEMO: Amnesty International has said that waiving restrictions on US military assistance to Egypt risks America becoming complicit in human rights abuses.

The statement made by the advocacy director for the Middle East and North Africa was in response to reported deliberations by the Biden administration to release $300 million of restricted military assistance to Egypt.
