Palestine: warning about raids at Al Aqsa Mosque during Jewish holidays

07 Sep 2021; MEMO: Palestine's Mufti Mohammad Hussein warned on Monday about Israeli raids at Al Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem's Old City during the Jewish holiday season. The mufti's statement came in response to calls by Jewish groups for their followers to show up in large numbers at the Noble Sanctuary of Al-Aqsa, the third holiest site in Islam, during the holiday period.

Houthis accuse UK of spying on telecoms network in Yemen

07 Sep 2021; MEMO: Yemen's Houthi group yesterday accused Britain of spying on the country's telecommunications networks, with the complicity of the internationally recognised government.

"Britain is carrying out espionage activities on some Yemeni telecommunications networks, and some submarine cables from southern governorates, which they have taken as bases for them to serve their colonial goals," a member of the group's negotiating delegation, Abdul Malik Al-Ajri, wrote on Twitter.

Palestine: Rights group presses PA Prime Minister about freedoms in West Bank

07 Sep 2021; MEMO: Rights group Lawyers for Justice presses Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh to discuss freedoms in the occupied West Bank.

According to Safa news agency, the questions relate to the summoning and detention campaigns carried out against activists by the PA security services without judicial orders.

"What do you, Shtayyeh, say about the detentions that have been documented since the announcement of the state of emergency?" the group asked.

India: Delhi riots accused Umar Khalid withdraws bail plea after police objects to maintainability, files fresh appeal

New Delhi, Sep 6 (PTI) Former JNU student leader Umar Khalid, arrested under stringent anti-terror law UAPA in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case, has withdrawn his bail application and filed a fresh one after the city police objected to its maintainability.

Senior advocate Trideep Pais, appearing for Khalid, told Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat that the application seeking bail under section 439 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been substituted with the one under section 437 after the police objected to it.

India: Kashmir leader Mehbooba Mufti under house arrest again

Srinagar, Sept 7 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday claimed that she has been placed under house arrest, and said the move has exposed the government's claims of normalcy.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister also posted on Twitter pictures of a security force vehicle blocking the main gate of her Gupkar residence here.

"Ive (I have) been placed under house arrest today because according to admin(istration) the situation is far from normal in Kashmir. This exposes their fake claims of normalcy," she tweeted.

Israel to fully open Gaza crossings: Qatar envoy

06 Sep 2021; MEMO: Israel will fully open its crossings with Gaza and facilitate ending the crises in the besieged enclave, the Qatari envoy said this morning in a statement.

The Israeli decision comes after meetings were held over the past few days in an effort to stablise the situation and deescalate tensions in Gaza, Mohammed Al-Emadi said. There were positive results from the meetings and these would form a foundation for resolving all other outstanding issues relating to improving the lives of Palestinians.

Israel 'Defence' Forces to destroy Palestinian farms in occupied West Bank

06 Sep 2021; MEMO: The Israel "Defence" Forces handed over orders to Palestinian farmers on Sunday in the village of Battir on the outskirts of Bethlehem, giving notice that soldiers will be razing their farms to the ground and destroying their grapevines, Anadolu has reported.

India: Restrictions remain in force in parts of Srinagar

Srinagar, Sept 6 (PTI) Normal life remained affected for the fifth day on Monday as authorities imposed restrictions in parts of the city to prevent exhumation of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's body from the Hyderpora graveyard for burial in the Eidgah Martyrs' graveyard in old city.

"Restrictions have been imposed around Hyderpora and Eidgah areas of the city as a precautionary measure," officials said.
