India: Sisters drink dye after fight on dress, elder dies, younger critical

Kanpur: Elder sister drank dye after a dispute over wearing her favourite suit in Kalyanpur here. The relatives admitted her to LLR Hospital for treatment.

At the same time, the younger sister, who was feeling guilty after the incident, also drank the dye.

She has been admitted to a nearby private hospital for treatment? The elder sisters died on Tuesday morning. The incident caused a furore in the family.

Kanpur: One does not suppose to do what others like him to do because it benefits or is liked by a lot of people.

310 killed, nearly 300 injured as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Around 310 people have been killed and 295 others injured in separate rain-related incidents in Pakistan since June 14 as heavy downpours continued to lash the country, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.

A total of 175 women and children are among the dead, the NDMA said in a situation report released Sunday, adding that the rains have partially or fully damaged nearly 8,979 houses along with 48 bridges and several shops across the country.

Droupadi Murmu takes oath as 15th president of India

NEW DELHI, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Droupadi Murmu was sworn in as the 15th president of India on Monday.

Murmu has thus become the first tribal woman to be elected to the country's top constitutional post.

She was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India N. V. Ramana inside the central hall of the parliament. The ceremony was followed by a 21-gun salute. Then she delivered an address.

Murmu was accorded a guard of honor at the Presidential house in New Delhi, locally called Rashtrapati Bhavan.

India: Mathura court reserves decision over appointing commissioner to survey Shahi Idgah mosque

Mathura, Jul 22 (PTI) A court in Mathura has reserved its decision over the appointment of a commissioner to survey the Shahi Idgah mosque near the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple to verify temple signs in it.

The hearing was held in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Chaudhary, said Devkinandan Sharma and Deepak Sharma, the advocates of Dinesh Sharma, who is the treasurer of the plaintiff Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha.

India: Reliance expects gas price to rise in Oct, wants removal of ceiling prices

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) Reliance Industries Ltd expects prices of natural gas in India to rise again in October but wants government-dictated caps to go, in a bid to align domestic rates with global energy prices.

The conglomerate, controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, expects the price cap for its KG-D6 gas sales to rise over the current USD 9.92 per million British thermal units, Sanjay Roy, senior vice-president for exploration and production, said in an investor call following the announcement of the firm's quarterly earnings on Friday.

India: Centre tried to hijack AAP govt plantation event; CM not to attend programme

New Delhi, July 24 (PTI) Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Sunday alleged that the Centre tried to hijack an event of the Arvind Kejriwal government at the Asola Wildlife Sanctuary with the Delhi Police putting up banners carrying pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the venue last night.

He said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was supposed to attend the event but has now decided not to participate in it.

India: Man in Delhi tests positive for monkeypox

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) A 34-year-old man from the national capital with no history of foreign travel has tested positive for monkeypox virus, official sources said on Sunday.

This is the fourth case of the disease being reported in India.

The man had attended a stag party recently in Manali in Himachal Pradesh, official sources told PTI.

A resident of West Delhi, the man was admitted to the Maulana Azad Medical College Hospital here around three days ago after he showed symptoms of monkeypox.

India: Murmu takes oath as 15th President

New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) Droupadi Murmu on Monday took oath as the 15th President of India.

Chief Justice of India N V Ramana administered her oath at a ceremony held at Parliament's Central Hall in the presence of former president Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi amongst others.

She took the oath in the name of god in Hindi.

India: Kushwaha blames BJP for tension in Bihar NDA

Patna, July 25 (PTI) Upendra Kushwaha, a top leader of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U), on Monday squarely blamed ally BJP for the perception gaining ground that all was not well in the NDA in the state.

The JD(U) parliamentary board chief also slammed state BJP chief Sanjay Jaiswal for having recently claimed that Bihar was fast becoming a hub of anti-national terror activities.
