India: UP Police constable arrested in rape case

Saharanpur, Aug 2 (PTI) A 25-year-old police constable has been arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a BSc student, police said.

Superintendent of Police (city) Rajesh Kumar told PTI that a police constable posted at a police station in Amroha district, and a resident of Deoband, has allegedly raped a BSc student after blackmailing her to post her edited photograph.

A case has been registered against the police constable at Deoband police station, and he has been arrested, he added.

India: Ambedkar's statue defiled in UP village

Bhadohi (UP), Aug 3 (PTI) A statue of B R Ambedkar was defiled in Deegh village of the district, police said on Wednesday.

A local identified as Pawan informed police about the matter on Tuesday following which a police team reached the spot and got the 1.5-feet tall statue, which had fallen on the ground, reinstalled, Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said.

An FIR has been registered under IPC section 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and probe is on in the matter.

India: 18-year-old gang raped in UP village

Ballia (UP), Aug 3 (PTI) An 18-year-old woman was allegedly raped by four people when she had stepped out to ease herself in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, police said on Wednesday.

The woman in her police complaint alleged that the incident took place on July 30.

The accused, aged between 25 and 35 years, and the woman are from the same village under Nagra police station limits, they said.

India: Feral dogs kill 55 sheeps in Kanpur Dehat

Kanpur: As many as 55 sheeps were killed in a village of Dehat district. Fear of stray dogs is spread throughout the village.

According to the information, stray dogs entered the sheep's shed and killed 55 sheep.

“We have seen the official statements by the United States and media reports regarding a counter-terrorism operation carried out by the U.S. in Afghanistan,” the spokesperson said in a statement and reiterated that Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

India Reported Sixth Monkeypox Case

NEW DELHI, Aug 2 (NNN-PTI) – India recorded its sixth monkeypox case, which is the second case in the national capital, late yesterday, a health department official in Delhi confirmed, today.

The patient is said to be a Nigerian national, with no recent travel history. He was admitted to a government-run hospital for treatment of the viral infection.

According to a report by The Hindu newspaper, the patient is in his thirties and has been living in Delhi for around one year.

Sri Lankan president says COVID-19 cases are rising again

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — COVID-19 cases and deaths are rising in Sri Lanka, and citizens should receive a fourth vaccine dose to prevent a possible surge of the coronavirus, the president said Tuesday.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe said there were only three reported COVID-19 deaths in June. That rose to 35 in July, including 28 who succumbed after July 18.

There were 283 confirmed cases in June and 1,616 in July, he said.
