India: Deranged person halts train by locking himself into parcel van

Kanpur: The mentally challenged youth locked the parcel vehicle door of the New Delhi-bound Swarna Shatabdi Express. It stood for one hour and five minutes at Kanpur Central station.

The mentally challenged youth locked the parcel vehicle door and did not easily come out. During this, the passengers created a ruckus.

Later, the GRP and railway personnel cut the gate and brought down the mentally deranged youth.

The Swarna Shatabdi Express going to New Delhi via Kanpur via Lucknow had arrived at Kanpur Central station on its scheduled time on Monday.

Pakistan: FS for Afghan govt to address int’l community’s expectations on inclusivity, rights

ISLAMABAD, Jul 18 (APP): Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood on Monday urged the Afghan government to address the international community’s expectations regarding inclusivity, respect for the rights, including girls’ education; and effective counter-terrorism measures.

The foreign secretary, in a meeting with China’s Special Envoy on Afghanistan Ambassador Yue Xiaoyong, also stressed the importance of de-freezing of Afghanistan’s foreign reserves.

Second Indian Aircraft Made Emergency Landing In 24 Hours

NEW DELHI, Jul 18 (NNN-PTI) – Another Indian aircraft made an emergency landing in a foreign country, over the past 24 hours, media reported yesterday.

An Air India Express flight, from India’s southern city of Calicut to the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Dubai, was diverted to Oman’s capital, Muscat, after a burning smell emerged in the cabin.

Post-landing engineering inspections were carried out on the aircraft and the engines, but no fumes or smoke were observed and the flight took off for its onward journey to Dubai, the reports said.

Indian lawmakers vote for president, likely a tribal woman

Earthquake in eastern Afghanistan injures 10 people

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Taliban has confirmed that at least 10 people were injured after an earthquake struck eastern Gayan district in Paktika province.

Abdul Wahid Rayan, director of Bakhtar, Taliban’s news agency, said the quake in the remote area happened late Monday afternoon.

On Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported a magnitude 5.1 quake near Khost.

India: Students facing brunt of hot weather in Kanpur

India: Technical problem forces IndiGo plane to land in Karachi

NEW DELHI, July 17 (Reuters) - India's biggest airline, IndiGo, said on Sunday it had diverted a plane to Karachi in neighbouring Pakistan due to a "technical defect", the second such incident for an Indian carrier involving an unscheduled landing in less than two weeks.

The flight was meant to go to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates from the southern city of Hyderabad. It was not immediately clear when the incident occurred.

Afghanistan's central bank to auction 12 mln USD to keep national currency stable

KABUL, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's central bank Da Afghanistan Bank announced Saturday that it will put on auction 12 million U.S. dollars on Sunday as part of efforts to keep the national currency stable, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported.

The bidders, including moneychangers and private banks, should deposit the necessary money in cash in afghani as guarantee in the central bank before the auction begins.

Pakistan to get USD 4 billion from friendly countries to shore up reserves: Fin Min

Islamabad, Jul 17 (PTI) Pakistan is likely to get USD 4 billion from friendly countries this month to bridge a gap in foreign reserves highlighted by the International Monetary Fund, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has said, two days after the cash-strapped nation reached a deal with the global lender for the revival of a USD 6 billion loan facility.

Ismail on Saturday referred to the shortfall in foreign reserves highlighted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dawn newspaper said.

India: Kejriwal urges Delhiites to have precaution Covid doses

New Delhi, July 17(PTI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday appealed to Delhiites to get the COVID-19 precaution doses saying only around 10 per cent people have done so far in the city.

He also appealed to the parents of children in the age group 12-17 years to get them administered second dose of the vaccine.

The chief minister said the government will also set up camps in schools for vaccination of children. The school authorities may contact the local district administration officials for the purpose, he said.
