India: "Where is the Church priest and Imam?" asks DMK MP

Chennai, Jul 16 (PTI) The ruling DMK's Lok Sabha MP, S Senthilkumar objected to 'Bhoomi Puja' for a road project by a Hindu priest and said that representatives of all religions should be invited to offer prayers for any such an event.

The Dharmapuri Lok Sabha MP, on his arrival at the spot in his home district asked an official if he was aware a government function should not be held in such a manner involving prayers of only one particular religion.

India: AIUDF to support Yashwant Sinha in presidential election

Guwahati, Jul 17 (PTI) The All India United Democratic Front on Sunday announced that it will vote for Yashwant Sinha, the joint opposition nominee, in the presidential election.

AIUDF legislator Aminul Islam, however, said his party will support the opposition candidate in the July 18 presidential poll even though they were "sidelined" during Sinha's recent visit to Assam.

Polygamist Killed By Wives In Western Afghanistan

ZARANJ, Afghanistan, Jul 16 (NNN-ANA) – Two of the three wives of a polygamist, killed their husband, in Afghanistan’s western Nimroz province, a provincial official said today.

Director of the Public Relations Office, Bahram Haqmal said, the incident took place in a suburb of Police District 4, of provincial capital, Zaranj city, several days ago.

A statement by Haqmal’s office said, preliminary investigation by the police found the women murdered the husband in conspiracy with their brothers. The police have arrested four persons in the case.

Pakistan’s Punjab ready for provincial assembly byelections

NEW DELHI, July 16 (NNN-Bernama) — Pakistan’s Punjab province is all set to hold the crucial provincial assembly byelections on Sunday, with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) locked in a bitter contest.

Campaigning ended on Friday night for the 20 constituencies that will determine who controls Pakistan’s most populous province.

More than 52,000 police personnel are being deployed in 14 districts as part of election security arrangements, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Pakistan strives to increase women's workforce participation for economic prosperity: president

ISLAMABAD, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Arif Alvi said on Saturday that his country has been making efforts to increase the workforce participation of women for the economic prosperity of Pakistan.

"Women make up almost 50 percent of the country's population and the provision of enabling conditions such as ensuring their safety and security at the workplace and providing quality education and skills to women is the priority of the government and society," the president said while interacting with a delegation of businesswomen here.

India: Nine female mechanics get training at Fazalganj roadways workshop

Kanpur: The women workers at the Fazalganj roadways workshop with the desire to become a mechanic, are working hard for eight hours of duty.

The senior foreman of Roadways Workshop CP Shukla said that for the first time nine women mechanics are being trained in the workshop.

Trainee women will lift and work heavy parts of buses and machines.

The women workers told that the future was secure in the technical field.

Therefore, after completing the driver's training for 16 months, the path to become a mechanic would be surely clear.

India: Lovers dazed as parents appear unexpectedly near Motijheel Park

Kanpur: There was a film scene outside the Motijheel Park area here on Friday afternoon.

The bike-riding parents got angry after seeing the daughter with the boy of the locality. The boy was allegedly beaten up and thrown down the middle of the road. He was beaten so much that his nose started bleeding.

On getting information, the police took all four into custody. The matter occurred in Swarup Nagar police station area.

India: Four held for allegedly bothering a teenager in Kanpur's Chakeri area

Kanpur: A group of four youths have been arrested for allegedly molesting a teenager and trying to abduct her in a car in the Chakeri police area.The incident happened on Thursday evening.

Hearing the screams of the victim, passers-by managed to stop the car and nabbed the accused. After beating, they were handed over to the police.

According to the father of the teenager, his 16-year-old daughter is pursuing intermediate at a local college.
