Three hurt as moving car falls from bridge in Kanpur

Kanpur: A moving car fell 40 feet after colliding with the railing after a tire burst on the Govindpuri bridge under the Fazalganj police station area here.

Three people were traveling in the car at the time of the accident. They have suffered minor injuries. Harsh Trivedi, son of Anurag Trivedi, r/o Pandu Nagar at about 2.30 a.m.was leading towards Yashoda Nagar. He was accompanied with his brother Harsh Dwivedi and sister in law Shruti Dwivedi.

Freezing Weather Claimed Five Lives In W. Afghanistan

QALA-E-NAW, Afghanistan, Jan 16 (NNN-ANA) – Heavy snowfall and freezing weather have claimed five lives, including four children, in Afghanistan’s western Badghis province, provincial administration spokesman, Ahmad Jan Hanzala, said today.

“Four children and a man lost their lives due to heavy snowfall and freezing weather, in Qadis district of Badghis province,” Hanzala told reporters.

A pilot couple killed in air crashes in Nepal - 16 years apart

KATHMANDU, Jan 16 (Reuters) - In 2010, Anju Khatiwada joined Nepal's Yeti Airlines, following in the footsteps of her husband, a pilot who had died in a crash four years earlier when a small passenger plane he was flying for the domestic carrier went down minutes before landing.

On Sunday, Khatiwada, 44, was the co-pilot on a Yeti Airlines flight from Kathmandu that crashed as it approached the city of Pokhara, killing at least 68 people in the Himalayan nation's deadliest plane accident in three decades.

No survivors have been found so far among the 72 people on board.

Rescue operation suspended with 1 more body, black boxes found at Nepal's plane crash site

KATHMANDU, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The rescue operation was halted on Monday evening as one more body and the black boxes were recovered earlier in the day at the crash site of a passenger plane in central Nepal, officials said.

"We have wrapped up the rescue operation for today," said Brig. Gen. Krishna Prasad Bhandari, spokesperson of the Nepal Army.

"The recovery of one additional body, the flight data recorder and the flight voice recorder is our achievement today," Bhandari told Xinhua.

Flight data, voice recorders retrieved from Nepal crash site

POKHARA, Nepal (AP) — Search teams retrieved the flight data and cockpit voice recorders Monday of a passenger plane that crashed on approach to a new airport in Nepal’s Himalayan foothills, officials said. At least 69 of the 72 people aboard were killed in the crash, whose cause is unknown.

Rescuers are still searching the debris, which is scattered down a 300-meter (984-foot) gorge, for the three missing people who are believed to be dead.

68 bodies recovered from plane crash site in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- A total of 68 bodies had been recovered after a local passenger plane carrying 72 people crashed in the Pokhara region in central Nepal on Sunday, and the effort was continuing to find four others, officials said.

"We have found the dead bodies of 68 people so far," Jagannath Niroula, spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), told Xinhua.

Police: Ex-Afghan female lawmaker, guard shot dead at home

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A former Afghan female lawmaker and her bodyguard have been shot dead by unknown assailants at her home in the capital, Kabul, police said Sunday.

Mursal Nabizada was among the few female parliamentarians who stayed in Kabul after the Taliban seized power in August 2021.

It is the first time a lawmaker from the previous administration has been killed in the city since the takeover.

Local police chief Molvi Hamidullah Khalid said Nabizada and her guard were shot dead around 3 a.m. Saturday in the same room.
