Egypt Sisi heads to India as 'Chief Guest' for Republic Day

24 Jan 2023; MEMO: Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, will arrive in New Delhi today where he will be a Chief Guest at India's 74th Republic Day celebrations, following an invitation extended to him by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. During the three-day trip, he will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including five ministers and senior officials.

Turkiye's 7th aid train reaches Afghanistan

24 Jan 2023; MEMO: The seventh "Kindness Train" that departed from Ankara with the coordination of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reached Afghanistan's Herat province on Monday, Anadolu Agency reports.

According to the report, Sinan Ilhan, Turkiye's Consulate-General to Herat, welcomed the train with AFAD and Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) officials.

India: Panic grips Panki area as leopard sighted second time

Kanpur: A caution has been sounded in Panki area here after a leopard was spotted by a police patrol team late in the night in recent days.

Reportedly, it is the second time within three months that the feline has been spotted in the Panki area.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vikas Pandey said that the PRV cops on patrol duty when spotted some uproar in the bushes near the Panki canal here.

The moment they flashed torchlight, they saw that the leopard was coming out of the densely scattered bushes. But the big cat retreated soon after, as reported.

Bangladesh Seeks Assistance From World Bank, Partners To Attain Development Goals

DHAKA, Jan 24 (NNN-BSS) – The Bangladeshi government made a plea to the development partners, including the World Bank (WB), to continue their support to the country to attain its development goals.

Bangladeshi Finance Minister, AHM Mustafa Kamal, made the call while addressing a function marking the celebration of 50 years of partnership between the Bangladeshi government and the World Bank, in the capital, Dhaka.

“We seek all-out support from our development partners, including the World Bank in this regard,” the minister was quoted as saying.

India: 6 die as speeding truck rams into car on Lko-Kanpur Highway

Kanpur: As many as six people were killed after a speeding truck rammed into a car. It crushed pedestrians on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway in the Unnao district, late on Sunday night.

The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals. The police rushed to the scene and undertook a rescue operation.

However, the ambulance did not reach the spot on time and this outraged the crowd.

The irate crowd then mercilessly beat up a Constable who was making an effort to stop them. They also pelted stones at the policemen.

Pakistan: Former British secretary Straw spills beans over Gujarat’s inquiry

ISLAMABAD, Jan 22 (APP): Former British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has testified to the fact that the British government had conducted an investigation on its own into 2002 Gujarat riots in India after the large-scale violence created ripples in the UK.

He said the investigation was carried out after citizens of Gujarati Muslim origin in the UK were worried about their loved ones in India and were making representations to that effect to the then Tony Blair’s government.

India blocks BBC documentary on Modi from airing in India

MUMBAI, Jan 22 (Reuters) - India has blocked the airing of a BBC documentary which questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership during the 2002 Gujarat riots, saying that even sharing of any clips via social media is barred.

Directions to block the clips from being shared have been issued using emergency powers available to the government under the country's information technology rules, said Kanchan Gupta, an adviser to the government, on his Twitter handle on Saturday.
