US reduces patrols in northern Syria

01 Dec 2022; MEMO: The United States has reduced the number of partnered patrols in northern Syria with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Pentagon said on Tuesday, after Turkish strikes in the region and ahead of a feared ground invasion by Ankara, Reuters reported.

Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder told reporters on Tuesday that while operations against Islamic State had not stopped, the patrols had to be reduced because the SDF had reduced the number of their own patrols.

President Joe Biden grants immunity to Saudi's MBS over Khashoggi killing

18 Nov 2022; MEMO: The US has granted Saudi's Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman sovereign immunity in a lawsuit over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The decision means that despite the near certainty of the US intelligence community that the 37-year-old authorised the brutal murder of Khashoggi in 2018, any prospect for holding the crown prince legally accountable for the killing is blocked.

Xi warns Biden against conflict, points to mutual interests

BEIJING, November 14. /TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping has warned US President Joe Biden against a possible conflict, saying the two countries have strong mutual interests, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Monday after their meeting in Indonesia’s Bali.

"It is in our own interest to prevent a conflict and avert confrontation," the ministry quoted Xi as saying. "China’s and the United States’ economic systems are closely interconnected. <…> We should benefit from joint development."

Envoy to demand improvement of conditions for Russians jailed in US at White House meeting

Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov plans to raise the issue of softening the conditions of Russians jailed in the US at a meeting with White House officials, as he himself told reporters after visiting Russian citizen Roman Seleznev in prison in Butner, North Carolina.

"Tomorrow (on Tuesday - TASS) I will be at the White House to discuss other things but I will definitely raise the issue of the inhumane imprisonment conditions of Russian nationals," the envoy pointed out.

USA: High young voter turnout in crucial midterm, youth prefer Democrats over Republicans

Washington, Nov 11 (PTI) Young voters, including first-timers, turned out in large numbers at polling booths this Tuesday and voted for the Democrats, which many experts believe is the reason for the better-than-expected performance of the ruling party led by President Joe Biden.

The Republicans, headed by former president Donald Trump, have made some progress in the House of Representatives while the vote for the Senate is on a knife edge.
