Indian boxers win 3 gold medals in Turkey

New Delhi, Sep 16 (PTI) Simranjit Kaur (64kg), Monika (48kg) and Bhagyabati Kachari (81kg) claimed gold medals as Indian boxers notched up an impressive seven podium finishes at the Ahmet Comert Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey.

Simranjit, a former national medallist, defeated Turkey's Sema Caliskan to fetch the top honours.

Competing in the light fly category, Monika beat Ayse Cagirer of Turkey to win the gold medal, while Bhagyabati got the better of Selma Karakoyun, who is also from the host nation, in the light heavyweight category.

17 Kashmiri seperatists killed in a week by Indian Security forces

Indian Security forces have killed a total of 17 Kashmiris in one week. It is alleged that those killed belonged to separatist groups.

5 of those Kashmiris were killed in Chaugam area of Kazigund in Srinagar, and their bodies have not been recovered yet. These five were identified as Gulzar Ahmad Paddar, Faisal, Zahid Ahmad Mir, Masroor Bhatt, and Zahroor.

Murdered girl’s parents and in-laws were not present during cremation, and have earlier refused to take the dead body to their homes.

Rape and torture of kids in Bhopal Shelter Home

MP Avasthi, Manager of a Shelter Home in Bhopal, Has been arrested for rape and torture of kids. Last year, Avasthi was accused for rape in another shelter home in Hoshangabad.

Avasthi has been accused of raping a girl for eight years. He is also accused of torturing kids, which caused deaths of three children in his custody.

Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Sep 14; PTI: A farmer in Muzaffarnagar's Rajpur village has allegedly committed suicide after failing to pay a debt, police said Friday.

Ravinder Kumar (48) ended his life by hanging from the ceiling of his house on Thursday, they said.

According to Circle Officer Hariram Yadav, a suicide note allegedly written by Kumar was also recovered in which the farmer claimed that he had sold his land to a teacher to clear the debt but he did not pay the promised amount.

Justice Ranjan Gogoi is Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, Sept 14; GANASHAKTI: JUSTICE RANJAN Gogoi, the most senior judge in the Supreme Court after Chief Justice Dipak Misra, was appointed as the next Chief Justice of India on Thursday.

“The President of India has appointed Justice Ranjan Gogoi as the next Chief Justice of India. He will assume the office of Chief Justice on October 3, 2018 after the retirement of the current Chief Justice, Justice Dipak Misra,” said a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

19yr student, CBSE topper, gangraped in Haryana

Rewari (Haryana), September 14; GANASHAKTI: A 19-year-old college girl, who was a former CBSE topper in matriculation in Panchkula region, was allegedly abducted and raped by four to five men at Kanina in Haryana's Mahendergarh district.

The Rewari police filed a zero FIR against three youths of Naya Gaon village here on Thursday when the kin of the victim filed a complaint with it.

Tariff negotiations with US underway: Steel Minister

New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh Friday said negotiations are underway with the United States (US) over 25 per cent tariff it had imposed on steel imports.

US President Donald Trump had earlier imposed a 25 per cent import tariff on steel and 10 per cent on aluminium.

However, the minister said there would not be any immediate impact on domestic steel exports as India sends a marginal amount of alloy of its shipment to the US.

Death toll due to fever rises to 42 in UP districts

Bareilly (UP), Sep 14 (PTI) The death toll due to an unknown fever in various districts under Bareilly division has risen to 42 with six more people dying in Badaun and Shahjahanpur in last three days, officials said on Friday.

Citing fresh reports, the officials said that the fever had claimed three lives each in Badaun and Shahjahanpur.

Earlier, 20 persons had died in a fortnight in Bareilly district, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Bareilly, Vineet Kumar said.
