Man, father get life term for killing wife

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 15 (PTI) A local court has sentenced a man and his father to life imprisonment for killing his wife in Shamli district.

Additional District Sessions Judge Gaurav Kumar Srivastava also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 each on Sudhir kumar and Harpal Singh after holding them guilty under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) here.

Separatist-sponsored strike disrupts normal life in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 17 (PTI) Normal life was affected in the Kashmir Valley Monday due to a strike called by separatists to protest the recent killing of a civilian in Kulgam and against anti-militancy operations in south Kashmir.

Most of the shops, fuel stations and other business establishments were shut here in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

They said public transport was off the roads, while private cars, cabs and auto-rickshaws were seen plying in many areas of the city.

Police arrests 5 killers of MBA student Md. Farooque Khan - remaining 8 on loose

Manipur, Imphal; 16 Sep 2018: Md. Farooque Khan 26, an MBA student, was killed by a Mob in Thaoroijam Awang Leikai area in Manipur state. He was on his way to meet a friend with two companions in his car. Car was stopped by the mob and torched. Two of Khan’s companions ran away but Khan was caught and beaten brutally by the mob, in police presence. Almost dead Khan was taken to hospital and died there.

MBA student lynched in Manipur, 2 friends ran to save their lives

A 26 year old MBA student has been lynched by a mob in Manipur for suspicion of being a car thief. Two others in the car ran to save their lives when it was torched by the mob.

Video of this lynching has become viral on the social media.

Student was travelling through Thouroijam Avang Leikai when he was beaten to death by the mob, which includes a Havaldar from India Reserve Battalion.

Congress seeks JPC to probe Rafale deal

Puducherry, Sep 15; PTI : Charging Prime Minister Narendra Modi with "showing no interest" for the welfare of people and the nation at large, AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik Saturday sought a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to go into the modalities adopted in the Rafale aircraft deal.

He also said a probe by JPC would bring out the whole truth in the multi-billion dollar fighter jet deal.

Uber rape case: HC upholds life term of convict

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) Rapes have been on the rise despite stringent new laws on sexual offences against women, the Delhi High Court has observed while upholding the life sentence given to an Uber driver for raping a 25-year-old executive in the cab in 2014.

A bench of Justices S Muralidhar and Vinod Goel noted that the statistics of the National Crime Records Bureau for 2016 show that 38,947 women were raped that year.

4,388 CCTVs installed in Delhi for women safety: Police to HC

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) The Delhi High Court was told by the police Friday that it has installed around 4,388 CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas of the national capital to ensure safety and security of women.

The Delhi Police made the submission in an affidavit filed in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) moved in March this year by some lawyers for safety of women after a few women complained about "urine and semen-filled" balloons allegedly being hurled at them in and around North Campus of Delhi University.

Left leading on all central panel posts in JNU

New Delhi, Sep 16 (PTI) The United Left is leading in all four central panel posts in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union polls, counting for which is underway.

According to the election committee, after counting 3,281 out of 5185 votes, N Sai Balaji, presidential candidate of the Left is leading with 1,350 votes. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidate Lalit Pandey was at the second position with 605 votes followed by Thallapalli Praveen from BAPSA (Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students Association).

'Motorcycle used in Gauri Lankesh murder seized'

Mumbai, Sep 15 (PTI) The motorcycle used in the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh has been found, a senior official of Maharashtra Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad said late Saturday evening.

A special investigation team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police and the Maharashtra ATS are probing links of the accused involved in the case in Maharashtra, the official said.

During the probe, the motorcycle used in the murder was found, he said.

Three accused for Haryana gang rape have  been identified by police as Pankaj, an Army jawan, Manish and Nishu. Police had released their photographs. The accused live in the same village in Rewari

Haryana police has announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the accused, and has set up a special investigation team headed by Nuh SP, Naazneen Bhasin.
