India: Haryana minister Ranjeet Singh tests COVID positive

Chandigarh, Aug 29 (PTI) Haryana Power Minister Ranjeet Singh said on Saturday that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Singh, who is an Independent MLA supporting the BJP-JJP government, had got his test done just before the one-day Assembly session on Wednesday and his report returned negative. However, he developed symptoms after the session and got himself tested again.

"I got my COVID test done again and the report came positive," the cabinet minister tweeted. "My health is alright, but I under home quarantined on the advice of doctors."

India: Airlines can put flyers on no-fly list for refusing to wear mask

New Delhi, Aug 28 (PTI) The government has permitted the airlines to serve pre-packed snacks, meals and beverages on domestic flights and hot meals on international flights, according to an official order.

Moreover, any passenger who refuses to wear a face mask in a flight can be put on the no-fly list by the airline, said a senior official of the aviation regulator DGCA.

India: BJP MP, MLA test positive for coronavirus in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Aug 27 (PTI) Ahmedabad West BJP MP Kirit Solanki and the party's MLA from Surat, Harsh Sanghvi, announced on Thursday that they have contracted coronavirus.

While Solanki has isolated himself at home, Sanghvi has been admitted to a hospital.

"I had low fever and coughing from August 20 and had remained in isolation from that day. Today I got myself tested and was found to be COVID-19 positive," tweeted Solanki, a two-time MP.

India: BJP not converting India into Hindu state: Subramanian Swamy

New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) BJP MP Subramanian Swamy on Thursday said the party is not converting India into a Hindu state and the Constitution also forbids it, while asserting that it will remain in power till its Hindutva ideology remains intact.

Claiming that the Congress formed governments in the past by uniting minorities and dividing Hindus, Swamy said politically, Hindus should be united as a community by sinking their differences.

India: Slain woman Naxal terrorist was carrying Rs 6 lakh reward: Police

Gadchiroli, Aug 27 (PTI) A woman Naxal killed by commandos of the elite C-60 wing in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra has been identified and she was carrying a reward of Rs 6 lakh on her head, police said on Thursday.

She was also facing more than two dozen criminal cases, they said.

The female Naxal was killed on Wednesday afternoon in an encounter with commandos of C-60 in the jungles of Mouza Dolandha. Her identity was not immediately established.

India: Yamuna water level nears warning mark in delhi

New Delhi, Aug 28 (PTI) The water level of the Yamuna in Delhi rose to 204.30 meters on Friday morning, precariously close to the warning mark of 204.50 meters, officials said.

"The water level was recorded at 204.30 meters at the Old Railway Bridge at 9 am. It was 203.77 metres at 10 am on Thursday," an official of the irrigation and flood control department said.

The water level rose because more water was released from the Hathnikund barrage on Tuesday. The flow rate was 36,557 cusec at 5 pm on Tuesday, the highest in the last three days, he said.

India: Man held for rape attempt on 7-year-old girl in UP

Noida (UP), Aug 28 (PTI) A 42-year-old man has been arrested for alleged rape attempt on a seven-year-old girl from his neighbourhood at a village in Uttar Pradesh's Noida, police said on Friday.

The incident had taken place on Wednesday evening and an FIR was lodged in connection with the case at Sector 39 police station Thursday night, they said.

"The accused and the victim are neighbours. An FIR was lodged after the family's complaint was received and the accused arrested immediately," a police spokesperson said.

India: Why does road cutting carry if better roads damage?

Kanpur: There is no end to road cutting in the city or outer areas. This is surely because of the needs arising to dig up roads for different purposes from time to time.

What is done after digging the road is that it is somehow made passable motorable so that the traffic must go on.

Civic bodies like Jal Nigam, PWD and Nagar Nigam make an accusation to one another for ruining the roads in a good position.
