India: SC grants 30 minutes to Bhushan to reconsider his stand on contemptuous tweets

New Delhi, Aug 25 (PTI) The Supreme Court Tuesday granted 30 minutes to activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan, convicted for contempt, to 'think over' his stand of not expressing regret over his tweets against the judiciary.

The top court granted another opportunity to Bhushan after Attorney General K K Venugopal sought forgiveness for the activist-lawyer.

"He (Bhushan) should withdraw all statements and express regret," said the top law officer when the bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra sought his views on the 'defiant' statement of Bhushan.

India: Delhi HC transfers various Tablighi cases to Saket district court for swift decision

New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) The Delhi High Court has ordered the transfer of a batch of cases pending against 27 foreign nationals, who attended a Tablighi Jamaat event here, to the Saket district court so that they are swiftly decided.

The foreigners had allegedly indulged in missionary activities in violation of visa norms and flouted COVID-19 guidelines.

Singapore govt, monetary authority trim stake in Zee Entertainment

New Delhi, Aug 24 (PTI) The Singapore government and Monetary Authority of Singapore have cut almost one per cent of their total holding in Zee Entertainment Enterprise (ZEEL) to 5.93 per cent by selling shares worth over Rs 186 crore in the open market.

According to a regulatory filing by the company, GIC Pvt Ltd on account of Government of Singapore (GOS) and Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) sold a total of 93.30 lakh shares, amounting to approximately 0.97 per cent stake in ZEEL on August 20.

India: Man kills four-year-old girl after rape in Rajnandgaon

Rajnandgaon, Aug 23 (PTI) A four-year-old girl was raped and smothered to death allegedly by a 28-year-old man in her village in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district, police said on Sunday.

The accused, Shekhar Korram, was arrested after the incident on Saturday, an official said.

"On Saturday evening, the victim's family members informed the police that she was missing since afternoon," the official said.

During investigation it came to light that the girl was last seen in front of Korram's house.

India: MP Health Minister tests COVID-19 positive

Bhopal, Aug 23 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Prabhuram Choudhary on Sunday said he has tested coronavirus positive.

He shared the information on his Twitter handle.

Choudhary is the seventh minister in Madhya Pradesh, besides Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, to test positive for the infection.

"My COVID-19 test report came out positive. I request those who had come in my contact to undergo a coronavirus test. Those in close contact should quarantine themselves," he tweeted.

India: Couple kills 7-year-old daughter in UP

Bareilly, Aug 23 (PTI) In a gruesome incident, a man with the help of his second wife allegedly killed his seven-year-old daughter and buried her in his house, police said here on Sunday.

Izzatnagar police station SHO K K Verma said Ravi Babu, a resident of Aalok Nagar, had married Ritu after the death of his first wife almost two years ago.
