India: SC declines permission to carry out Muharram procession across country

New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) The Supreme Court Thursday declined permission for carrying out Muharram procession across the country and asked Lucknow-based petitioner to move before the Allahabad High Court with his plea.

The apex court said how can it pass a general order for the whole country.

A bench comprising Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian said it would lead to chaos and targeting of a particular community.

Audi RS Q8 launched in India, price starts at Rs 2.07 cr

New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) German luxury carmaker Audi on Thursday launched its latest SUV, Audi RS Q8, in India with price starting at Rs 2.07 crore.

The Audi RS Q8 is powered by a turbo 4-litre petrol engine delivering power of 600hp that can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph under four seconds. It combines the elegance of a premium coupe and the ability of an SUV, Audi India said in a statement.

COVID-19 can affect almost all organs, symptoms maybe unrelated to lungs

New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) COVID-19 can affect almost all organs besides the lungs and the initial symptoms may be totally unrelated to chest complaints, according to experts at AIIMS here.

They stressed that classification of cases into mild, moderate and severe categories based just on respiratory symptoms should be relooked to include other organ involvement.

India: Woman Naxal terrorist killed in encounter in Gadchiroli

Nagpur, Aug 26 (PTI) A woman Naxal was killed on Wednesday in an encounter with commandos of the elite C-60 wing in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, police said.

The encounter took place in the afternoon in the jungles of Mouza Dolandha in the adjoining Naxal-affected district, they said.

According to a release issued by the office of Gadchiroli SP, C-60 commandos of the district police were conducting an anti-Naxal operation in the forests when the exchange of fire took place between them and a group of ultras.

India: Bamboo research centre launched in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Aug 26 (PTI) Industree Foundation and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on Wednesday launched a Bamboo Research Centre at Channapatna in Ramanagara district, in partnership with the Karnataka Chapter of the National Bamboo Mission.

This Resource Centre is the first step toward setting up women-owned collectives in the bamboo value chain under Industree Foundations Producer-Owned Women Enterprises (POWER) project, a joint statement said.

India: UP HC denies bail to anti-CAA activist Osama

Allahabad, Aug 26 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has rejected the bail plea of an anti-CAA activist arrested on charges of being a participant of an unlawful assembly which made hate speeches and seditious statements during a protest against the last year's changes in the citizenship law.

While denying bail to Azamgarh resident Osama on Tuesday, Justice J J Munir directed the lower court to complete the trial within six months.

India: 200,000 Ola, Uber drivers in Delhi threaten to go on strike from Sept 1

New Delhi, Aug 27(PTI) Drivers working with mobility platforms Ola and Uber have threatened to go on strike in Delhi-NCR from September 1 in support of their various demands like fare hike and extension of moratorium on repayment of loans.

Around 2 lakh drivers working with cab aggregators will take part in the strike if the government fails to solve our problems, said Kamaljeet Singh Gill, president of Sarvodaya Drivers Association of Delhi.

India: Two migrant labourers found hanging at their homes in UP

Banda (UP), Aug 27 (PTI) Two migrant labourers, who had returned to their villages during the coronavirus-induced lockdown, were found dead at their homes in separate incidents, police said on Thursday.

The body of a 33-year-old man was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room in Aliha village on Wednesday, they said.

The man, identified as Chutku, used to work as a labourer in Haryana and had recently returned to his hometown, SHO of Bisanda police station Akhilesh Mishra said.

India: Another UP minister tests positive for COVID-19

Lucknow, Aug 27 (PTI) Senior Uttar Pradesh minister Siddharth Nath Singh said on Thursday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

The 56-year-old cabinet minister has quarantined himself at his home on medical advice.

"After preliminary symptoms of coronavirus, I got myself tested and the report was positive. I am alright but on doctor's advice I have isolated myself in home quarantine," he said in a tweet in Hindi.

"I request those who came in contact with me over the last few days to get themselves tested," the minister said.

India: IMA Kanpur Chapter to conduct its polls by e-voting

Kanpur: It is for the first time the elections of various posts of the Indian Medical Association, Kanpur Chapter will be done through e-voting.

Giving this valid information the election committee chairman Dr SK Katiyar told that the nomination process will be conducted between Sept 1 and 6. Voting will be held from Sept 28 to October 4. 

It was further added the use of smartphone would be allowed. Every member would get a link.

The result will be declared after 30 hours of the completion of voting.
