India: PLA's "provocative... movements", Cong slams govt over Chinese aggression

New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) The Congress on Monday attacked the government over the Chinese aggression at the border and asked when will Prime Minister Narendra Modi show his "red eyes" to China.

"Another brazen attempt at aggression by China in Pangong Tso Lake. Everyday there is a Chinese intrusion...Pangong Tso Lake area, Gogra and Galwan valley, Depsang plains, Lipu Lake, Doka La and Naku La pass.

India: Body of newborn girl found on Noida road in UP

Noida (UP), Aug 31 (PTI) The body of a newborn girl was found along a road in Uttar Pradesh's Noida on Monday, police said.

The infant's body was spotted by some locals at Chhijarsi in Sector 63 who alerted the Phase 3 police station officials, they said.

"It appears that the baby was abandoned at the spot by someone fearing public shame," a local policeman said.

It was not clear whether the baby was already dead when abandoned or she died after being left there, the official said, adding an investigation is underway.

India: Naxal terrorist killed in encounter with police in Chhattisgarh

Dhamtari, Aug 31 (PTI) A Naxal was killed in an encounter with police in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district, a senior official said on Monday.

The skirmish took place on Sunday night in a forest in Ghoragaon village under Nagri police station area, located around 80 km from here, when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on a search operation, the official said.

When the patrolling team was advancing through the forest, an exchange of fire broke out between the two sides, he said.

India: Akal Takht to honour radical outfit founder

Amritsar, Aug 30 (PTI) The Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, has decided to confer the "Panth Sewak" award on radical outfit Dal Khalsa founder Gajinder Singh, one of the five men accused of hijacking an Indian Airlines plane to Lahore in 1981.

India had put Gajinder's name in the list of 20 most wanted terrorists in 2002.

An official of the Akal Takht on Sunday said it was decided during a meeting of five Sikh head priests recently to confer the award on Gajinder Singh.

India: Doctor 'rapes' nurse in Telangana

Hyderabad, Aug 30 (PTI) A doctor has allegedly raped a 28-year old nurse of a state-run hospital in Bhadradri- Kothagudem district in Telangana, police said on Sunday.

In a complaint filed on Saturday, the nurse alleged the doctor, aged around 32 and working on contract basis at the hospital, raped her at her house on August 24, a police official said.

The woman was also allegedly threatened and beaten up by the doctor, police said adding they have registered a case under relevant IPC sections against the doctor and investigations were on.

India: C'garh Cop goes 'missing', naxal terrorists' hand suspected

Bijapur, Aug 30 (PTI) A police official went missing on Sunday while he was travelling to his native village in naxal-hit Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, police said.

Police suspect that Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Nagaiyya Korsa might have been abducted by ultras, an official said, adding that they are investigating various possible angles.

Korsa had left Kutru police station in the district, where he was posted, this morning after taking leave, saying he was going home, the official said.

India: Adani Group to pick 74 pc stake in Mumbai airport

New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) Billionaire Gautam Adani's Adani Group on Monday said it has reached an agreement to acquire GVK Group's shareholding and control of Mumbai airport.

Adani Airport Holdings has "entered into an agreement to acquire the debt of GVK Airport Developers," Adani Enterprise said in a regulatory filing.

GVK Group holds 50.50 per cent equity stake in Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL). The debt will be converted into equity.

The two firms did not give further financial details of the deal.

India: Shiv Sena hits out at BJP over demand to reopen temples

Mumbai, Aug 31 (PTI) The Shiv Sena on Monday targeted the BJP for seeking reopening of temples in Maharashtra amid the COVID-19 crisis, and asked whether the NDA constituent will take responsibility if there is an "explosion" of coronavirus cases again.

The opposition BJP in Maharashtra last week staged protests outside temples in parts of the state, demanding reopening of the places of worship.

India: Amit Shah discharged from AIIMS

New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was admitted to the AIIMS here for post-COVID care, was discharged on Monday morning, the hospital said.

Shah, 55, had undergone treatment at the Medanta Hospital as he tested positive for the novel coronavirus and was discharged after he tested negative. He was later admitted to the AIIMS on August 18 following complaints of fatigue and body ache.

India: 55 houses swept away by Ganga in Malda district

Malda(WB), Aug 31 (PTI) At least 55 houses were washed away due to erosion in river Ganga in West Bengal's Malda district, an official said on Monday.

A sudden fall of water level of Ganga caused severe erosion at China bazar village under Birnagar gram panchayat on Sunday, Block Development Officer of Kaliachak Block III, Gautam Dutta said.

The BDO said around 70 metre of land and 55 houses has been washed away in the erosion.
