India: Humidity prevails as clouds are not bringing rains in Kanpur

Kanpur: Mostly cloudy and humid weather with slight rains penetrated the Jajmau area on Friday afternoon. Humidity does not end till the sunset.

Though rains have started in the afternoon, it was not sufficient. Sometimes the speed was fast while the intensity was not heavy.

Scanty rains are supposed to be causing the humid condition. The real feel of the evening temperature hovers to 30° Celsius.

Older people say heavy rainfall is the only solution to humid conditions. 

India: Youth arrested for raping minor girl in UP

Ballia (UP), Jun 18 (PTI) A youth was arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in a village in Ballia district, police said on Friday.

Bablu Rajbhar (22) raped his neighbour on Wednesday in Maniyar police station area, Station House Officer Shailesh Singh said.

On the basis of the complaint filed by the victim's mother, a case was registered against the accused and he was arrested, Singh said.

The girl has been sent to the district hospital for medical examination, he added.

India: UP man arrested for objectionable' remarks on Lord Ram

Ballia (UP), Jun 17 (PTI) A man was arrested in a village here for making objectionable remarks about Lord Ram on Facebook, police said on Thursday.

The action against Akash Johanino was taken on the complaint of one Vidya Bhushan Jaiswal, said Nagesh Upadhyay, in-charge of Rasra Kotwali.

Johanino, a resident of Manda village, used filthy words about the Hindu god on the social networking site, he added.

India: J'khand govt waives Rs 980 cr loan of 2.46L farmers

Ranchi, Jun 17 (PTI) The Jharkhand government on Thursday said it has waived off loans worth Rs 980 crore of 2.46 lakh farmers in the state so far and is committed to their welfare.

Chief minister Hemant Soren on completion of one-year of his government on December 29 last year had officially announced the farm loan waiver scheme.

In the first phase, the government has decided to waive farm loans up to Rs 50,000.

India: Man arrested for killing wife over dowry

New Delhi, Jun 17 (PTI) A 29-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly strangulating his newly-wed wife to death after a fight over dowry in south Delhi's Maidangarhi area, police said.

The accused, Kuldeep Singh Rana, works as an assistant to a contractor, they said.

On Wednesday, Rana and his wife (25) returned to Delhi from the woman's parental house at Golapar in Uttarakhand. Later, Rana beat his wife after consuming alcohol leading to her death, police said.

India: Kerala doctors take part in National Protest Day by IMA

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 18 (PTI):Raising the slogan of 'Save the Survivors', doctors in Kerala on Friday took part in the nation-wide protest organised by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) against the recent assault on medicos in various states.

The doctors, both in government and private sectors, organised standing protest in front of the Secretariat, the state administrative hub here, and in various district headquarters besides hospitals.

Doctors took part in the agitation holding placards in front of the Secretariat in the morning.

India Records 67,208 New COVID-19 Cases, Tally Rises To 29,700,313

NEW DELHI, Jun 17 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 29,700,313 today, with 67,208 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours, said the federal health ministry.

Meanwhile, 2,330 more patients died since yesterday morning, taking the death toll to 381,903.

This was the 10th consecutive day when less than 100,000 cases were registered across the country, after peaking to over 400,000 for several days in Apr and May.

There are currently 826,740 active cases, a decrease of 38,692 compared to previous day.

India: Kerala BJP Chief booked over bribery charges

Wayanad(Ker), June 17 (PTI) A case was registered against Kerala BJP chief K Surendran on Thursday for allegedly bribing tribal leader and Janadhipathya Rashtreeya Party (JRP) president C K Janu to contest as an NDA candidate in the April 6 assembly elections.

The development comes a day after a court here directed the police to register the case against Surendran over bribery allegations.

The FIR was filed under Sections 171 E (bribery) and 171 F (Punishment for undue influence or personation at an election), police said.

India: Court orders immediate release of 3 student activists from jail

New Delhi, June 17 (PTI) A Delhi court on Thursday ordered immediate release of student activists Devangana Kalita, Natasha Narwal and Asif Iqbal Tanha in the north- east Delhi riots 'conspiracy' case.

The order came two days after the Delhi High Court granted bail to Narwal, Kalita and Tanha, who were arrested in May last year under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
