India: PDP leader Naeem Akhtar released from house detention

Srinagar, Jun 20 (PTI) PDP leader Naeem Akhtar was Sunday released from house detention after over a month, officials said here.

This comes amid hectic political consultations in Jammu and Kashmir within mainstream regional parties, including the PDP and National Conference (NC), over an all-party meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 24.

"Akhtar has been released from house detention," an official said.

India: Four idols stolen from Jain temple in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), June 21 (PTI) Four idols were stolen from a Jain temple in Amba Vihar here, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday night.

Some unidentified men entered Digamber Panchavati temple through a window and stole the idols, the police said, adding that efforts were underway to nab the accused.

India: 8-yr-old girl strangled to death with her 'salwar' in UP, rape suspected

Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Jun 21 (PTI) An eight-year old girl was allegedly strangled to death by an unidentified miscreant in a village under Pasgawan police area here, police said on Monday.

The body of the girl with her 'salwar' wrapped around her neck was recovered from a sugarcane field on Sunday night, they said.

Relatives of the deceased have expressed apprehension of murder after rape.

Superintendent of Police Vijay Dhull told mediapersons that "prima facie, the deceased seemed to have been strangled to death".

India: Man beaten to death by his sons and their wives in UP's Kaushambi

Kaushambi, Jun 20 (PTI) A 62-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his two sons and their wives over the division of property, police said on Sunday.

Manjhanpur Circle Officer Krishna Gopal Singh said retired railway employee Baijnath Pal (62) was murdered by his two sons, their wives, grandson and a brother-in-law of his elder son, using a crowbar and sticks. Pal died on the spot.

India: Cow vigilante killed by cattle traffickers in Valsad

Valsad, Jun 20 (PTI) Police have arrested 10 people for allegedly killing a cow vigilante after he was crushed to death by a tempo illegally transporting cattle in Gujarat's Valsad district, officials said.

According to police, the accused persons were part of an inter-state network wherein cattle from villages in Valsad were purchased and transported illegally to neighbouring Maharashtra, specially in places like Bhiwandi, Ahmednagar and Nashik.

India: Rats nibble body in morgue of Indore hospital

Indore (MP), Jun 19 (PTI) The body of an alleged suicide victim was found to have been nibbled by rats at the morgue of the Indore district hospital, his relative alleged on Saturday.

A senior official said rodents had bitten the man's cheeks and a show-cause notice will be issued to the pest control agency hired by the hospital.

My uncle Krishnakant Panchal's body was sent for autopsy to the district hospital on Friday evening," said Rahul Panchal, his nephew.

India: Delhi govt starts foster care system for children

New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) In a first, the Delhi government has started the system of foster care and invited applications from people who can temporarily care for children, a situation necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Delhi government's Women and Child Development has issued a Standard Operating Procedure for foster care.

India: Minor molested by neighbour in UP's Chitrakoot, commits suicide

Chitrakoot (UP), Jun 19 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide, few hours after she was molested by her neighbour in a village here, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Friday night, they said, adding a case has been registered in this regard at Karvi Kotwali police station.

According to the police complaint, made by her mother, the girl hung herself after a youth, identified as Ramchandra, in her neighbourhood molested her.
