India: HC refuses to stay CCI notice to Facebook, WhatsApp in privacy policy

New Delhi, Jun 23 (PTI) The Delhi High Court has refused to stay the Competition Commission of India (CCI) notice asking Facebook and WhatsApp to furnish certain information in relation to a probe ordered by it into the instant messaging app's new privacy policy.

India: HC stays two recent orders of Lakshadweep administration

Kochi, June 22 (PTI) The Kerala High Court on Tuesday stayed the operation of two recent orders of the Lakshadweep administration--to close down dairy farms and remove meat products, including chicken from the menu of midday meals for school children.

The stay order was issued by a Division bench, comprising Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly on a PIL filed by a lawyer from the Islands.

India: Govt expert panel accepts Covaxin phase-3 trial data with 77.8% efficacy

New Delhi, Jun 22 (PTI) An expert panel of the country's central drugs authority has reviewed and accepted the phase-3 trial data of Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin, sources said on Tuesday.

According to the data submitted by the Hyderabad-based firm, the indigenously developed vaccine has shown 77.8 per cent efficacy in the trial conducted on 25,800 subjects, they said.

India: Cong leader Kamal Nath meets Sharad Pawar

New Delhi, Jun 22 (PTI) Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath met NCP supremo Sharad Pawar here Tuesday evening.

The two leaders spent around half an hour at Pawar's residence.

The meeting set off muted speculations in political circles as it came on a day Pawar met leaders of various political parties in what is seen as an attempt to cobble up a non-congress third front.

India: Yogi govt failed on all fronts: UP Cong

Lucknow, Jun 22 (PTI) The Congress on Tuesday alleged that the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has failed on all fronts.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Congress, the party's Uttar Pradesh unit chief Ajay Kumar Lallu said, "The Yogi Adityanath government in UP has failed on all the fronts. The government, which played with the lives of the people during the COVID-19 pandemic, has not completed even a single recruitment, and unemployment has reached its peak."

India: Mosque demolition: HC issues notice to ex-Barabanki SDM

Lucknow, Jun 22 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court Tuesday directed the respondents to file their responses within three weeks in connection with the demolition of a mosque at Barabanki on May 17.

The Lucknow bench of the HC also issued a notice to the then Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Ram Sanehi Ghat in Barabanki for his reply as malice was alleged against him.

It also granted a week to the petitioner for filing a rejoinder affidavit, fixing July 27 as the next date of hearing.

India: IndiGo airlines offers discount for vaccinated passengers

New Delhi, Jun 23 (PTI) IndiGo will give 10 per cent discount from Wednesday onwards to all passengers who have taken at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, a statement said.

The discount would be given on base fare and only "limited inventory" is available under this offer, the airline's statement noted.

"The offer is only available to vaccinated passengers aged 18 years and above, who are located in India at the time of booking and have already received a (at least one dose of) COVID-19 vaccine in the country," it said.

India: No vaccine, no salary: Ujjain collector to govt staff

Ujjain, Jun 23 (PTI) In a bid to achieve the target of 100 per cent vaccination against COVID-19, the Ujjain district administration in Madhya Pradesh has issued an order saying government employees will not get their salaries from next month if they are not inoculated.

District Collector Ashish Singh issued an order to this effect on Tuesday.

The order said salaries of government employees will not be disbursed, if they fail to get vaccinated till July 31.

India’s COVID-19 Tally Close To 30 Million, Daily New Cases Below 50,000

NEW DELHI, Jun 22 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 29,977,861 today, with 42,640 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours, said the federal health ministry.

This was the first time that less than 50,000 cases were reported in a day, after 91 days, according to the ministry. “Daily recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for the 40th consecutive day.”

Besides, 1,167 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded since yesterday morning, taking the country’s death toll to 389,302.

Daily COVID-19 cases peaked to over 400,000 for several days in Apr-May.
