India and China agree to maintain dialogue to resolve LAC standoff in eastern Ladakh

New Delhi, Jun 25 (PTI) India and China on Friday agreed to maintain dialogue and communication to reach a mutually acceptable solution for complete disengagement in all friction points along the Line of Actual Control(LAC) in eastern Ladakh to enable progress in the overall bilateral ties.

The two countries agreed to this as they held another round of diplomatic talks to resolve the prolonged border standoff in eastern Ladakh that erupted in early May last year.

Mumbai, Jun 24 (PTI) The Maharashtra government told the Bombay High Court on Thursday that a statewide committee will be constituted by Friday (June 25) to address the issue of rising air pollution owing to increase in instances of cremation following deaths due to COVID-19.

Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni made the submission before a bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice GS Kulkarni.

India: Court denies bail in gang rape case in Delhi

New Delhi, June 24 (PTI) A Delhi court Thursday denied bail to an accused in a gang-rape case, saying the allegations against him were grave and he may flee if allowed to come out of jail.

Accused Ajay Gupta allegedly lured a woman hailing from Rajasthan with a gold chain and the earrings, took her to a hut of a co-accused where six people took turns to rape her, Delhi Police said.

India: 11-yr-old girl gang-raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Jun 24 (PTI) An 11-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two people, including a minor, in Nagaur district of Rajasthan, police said on Thursday.

The accused and the victim are known to each other. They called the girl outside her house and took her to a nearby place where they committed the crime, police said.

The incident occurred on Monday night and an FIR was registered on Wednesday after which both the accused were held, they said.

India: AP govt opposes Centre's Indian Ports Bill

Amaravati, June 24 (PTI) Close on the heels of its neighbour Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh on Thursday said it was opposed to the proposed Indian Ports Act, 2021 mooted by the Union Ministry of Shipping.

APs Infrastructure and Investments Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy conveyed the states objection to the proposed law to Union Shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, saying it was "going against the Constitution."

"We have not yet studied the (draft) Bill.

India: Muslim man held under anti-conversion law for allegedly forcing his wife to convert

Ahmedabad, Jun 24 (PTI) A 25-year-old man and two others were arrested in Gujarat's Vadodara city on Thursday under a new law for allegedly forcing his wife to convert after marriage and also for domestic violence, police said.

Mohib Pathan, his brother Mohsin and their father Imtiyaz Pathan were arrested by Fatehgunj police under the Gujarat Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Act, 2021, which came into force on June 15.

The controversial legislation provides for punishment ranging from three to ten years in prison.

India: Ghaziabad Muslim assault case: Twitter India MD gets relief, no coercive action, says Court

Bengaluru/Ghaziabad, Jun 24 (PTI) Twitter India's Head Manish Maheshwari, who was summoned by the Ghaziabad Police in connection with a probe related to the assault of an elderly Muslim man there recently, did not appear before them as the Karnataka High Court restrained police from initiating coercive action against him.

In his interim order, the single bench of Justice G Narender said "if the police desire to examine the petitioner (Manish Maheshwari), they may do so by virtual mode."

India: Robert Vadra's vehicle challaned for dangerous driving

New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) Businessman Robert Vadra's vehicle was fined for dangerous driving when he was on his way to his office in southeast Delhi's Sukhdev Vihar area along with his security personnel, police said on Thursday.

The fine was charged under section 184 (driving dangerously) of the Motor Vehicles Act on Wednesday morning. His security personnel were following him in another vehicle, they said.

According to police, the fined vehicle was being driven by his driver while Vadra was on his way to his office in the Sukhdev Vihar area.

India: Tribal girl raped in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi (UP), Jun 24 (PTI) A four-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped at a village here, police said on Thursday and added that the local station house officer has been suspended for dereliction of duty.

Naresh Saroj (42) has been arrested in the case, they said.

The girl and her family members were sleeping under a shed on Wednesday night. Saroj picked her up from there and raped her at an agricultural field, police said.

The family found the girl in an unconscious state at the field on Thursday morning, police said.

India: Dark days of Emergency can never be forgotten: PM Modi

New Delhi, Jun 25 (PTI) On the 46th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said those "dark days" can never be forgotten and called for taking a pledge to strengthen India's democratic spirit and live up to the values enshrined in the Constitution.

"This is how Congress trampled over our democratic ethos. We remember all those greats who resisted the Emergency and protected Indian democracy," he tweeted, while sharing a link about several draconian measures taken by the then Congress government.
