India: SBSP to support SP candidates in zila panchayat polls

Ballia (UP), Jun 25 (PTI) The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, a former BJP ally, on Friday said it would support Samajwadi Party candidates in the election for the posts of zila panchayat chairman in Uttar Pradesh.

The national president of the party and former minister, Om Prakash Rajbhar, also alleged that the Yogi Adityanth government was fuelling the issue of religious conversion to divert people's attention from its failures.

India: Ganga river's water level rising, alert in Katri area

Kanpur: The water level of the Ganga river has been nearly touching the danger point. All the thirty sluice gates are opened.

Ganga river's upstream water level was recorded at a point of 112.200 metres while the downstream flow was reported at a point of 111.390 metres on Thursday.

The water from Haridwar and Narauna is being continuously released. As a result, the water level is spurting.

On June 24 from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m. the quantity of water that has been released from Ganga Barrage was measured up to more than 4.13 Lakh cusec.

Saudi Aramco chairman to join Reliance board

Mumbai, Jun 24 (PTI) Saudi Aramco chairman and head of the Kingdom's cash-rich wealth fund PIF Yasir Othman Al-Rumayyan will join the board of Reliance Industries Ltd as an independent director in a precursor to a USD 15 billion deal.

Reliance Chairman and Asia's richest man Mukesh Ambani, who had two years back disclosed the talks to sell a 20 per cent stake in the company's oil-to-chemical unit to Saudi Aramco, announced the appointment of Al-Rumayyan at the company's annual meeting of shareholders.

India: 4-yr-old Adivasi girl raped in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi (UP), Jun 24 (PTI) A four-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped in a village under Suryawa police station area here, police said on Thursday.

The accused, Naresh Saroj (42), has been arrested, they said.

The victim's family belonging to Musahar Basti was sleeping under the shed of a house to avoid rain when the accused picked up the girl and took her to an agriculture field where he raped her, station in-charge Pradeep Kumar said.

India's Modi to hold first talks with Kashmir leaders since removal of autonomy

SRINAGAR, India, June 24 (Reuters) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold face-to-face talks with top political leaders from Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, the first such meeting since his government revoked the region's autonomy in 2019, detained thousands and imposed a lockdown.

India said carving its only Muslim majority state into two federally administered territories in August 2019 was needed to spur development in the Himalayan region, where an armed insurgency has raged for decades against New Delhi's rule.

India to study indigenous vaccines' efficacy against Delta Plus COVID-19 variant

India: 2 minor girls from UP taken to Hyderabad, raped

Ballia (UP), Jun 24 (PTI) Two minor girls from Uttar Pradesh were allegedly kidnapped and taken to Hyderabad where they were raped, police said on Thursday.

The girls, aged 12 and 16, are friends and belong to a village under Narhi police station area, Sub-Inspector Dharmendra Singh said.

Two days after they were abducted on June 14, the father of one of the girls lodged a kidnapping case. And, on Wednesday, the girls were found at the Bharauli intersection here, he said.

India: Haryana to give Rs 6 crore to Tokyo Olympics gold winner

Chandigarh, Jun 23 (PTI) Haryana government on Wednesday announced that sportspersons from the state who win gold medal in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics would be given a cash amount of Rs 6 crore.

The state government will give the silver winners Rs 4 crore while the bronze medallists will get Rs 2.50 crore.

The state sports minister Sandeep Singh announced this while interacting with Olympic medallists on the occasion of International Olympic Day here, along with chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

India: SriKrishna Janmabhumi dispute: Hindu outfit moves court for amicable settlement

Mathura, Jun 22 (PTI) A Hindu outfit on Tuesday moved a Mathura court offering a piece of land larger than the one on which the 17th century Shahi Masjid stands allegedly inside the Katra Keshav Dev temple complex if the mosque's management committee agrees to voluntarily demolish the Mughal era shrine on its own.
