India: RJD leader meets Chirag, says anti-BJP alliance needed

New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Shyam Rajak has met Lok Janshakti Party's Chirag Paswan and called for a united alliance against the BJP-led NDA in Bihar as the Dalit leader looks for his political options after being snubbed by the saffron party.

Paswan has also spoken to RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, Rajak told PTI.

Rajak, once a close aide of JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and now in the RJD, said his visit to Paswan's house was "personal" in nature but added that political talks take place when politicians meet.

India: Naxals kill villager, dump body in forest in Chhattisgarh

Bijapur, Jul 12 (PTI) A 32-year-old villager was killed by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district, police said on Monday.

The body of Baman Poyam, a native of Ambeli village under Kutru police station limits, was found on Monday morning on a forested route, about five km away from his village, an official said.

As per preliminary information, some unidentified Naxals abducted the victim from his house on Sunday night and later killed him with sharp weapons, he said.

The exact reason behind the killing was not yet known, he said.

India: Upgradation of GSVM Surgery Deptt's OT Complex halts

Kanpur: The up-gradation work of the surgery department's OT complex at medical college has been halted since the outbreak of corona's second wave.

Neither the renovation progress nor the patients are getting the facility of operation.

A huge sum of Rs 20.58 crore has been proposed for converting the complex into a modular operation theatre.

The state government has released a sum of Rs 2.67 crore on March 7, 2019. The work that began after the first wave of the corona was discontinued after the second wave of the pandemic.

India’s COVID-19 Tally Rises To 30,837,222 With 42,766 New Cases

NEW DELHI, Jul 11 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 30,837,222 today, as 42,766 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, the federal health ministry’s latest data showed.

Besides, 895 deaths due to the pandemic since yesterday morning took the death toll to 408,040.

There are still 454,118 active COVID-19 cases in the country, with a fall of 915 cases during the past 24 hours.

India pulls officials from Afghanistan's Kandahar as Taliban widens control

MUMBAI, July 11 (Reuters) - India said on Sunday it had temporarily brought back officials from its consulate in Kandahar, a major city in southern Afghanistan, as Taliban fighters continue to gain control amid the withdrawal of international forces.

"Due to the intense fighting near Kandahar city, India-based personnel have been brought back for the time being," Arindam Bagchi, chief spokesperson at India's foreign ministry, said in a statement.

India: Twitter names Vinay Prakash as Resident Grievance Officer

New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI) Twitter has named Vinay Prakash as its Resident Grievance Officer for India, according to the company's website.

The US-based company has been in the eye of a storm over its alleged failure to comply with the new IT rules in India, which mandates, among other requirements, the appointment of three key personnel -- chief compliance officer, nodal officer and grievance officer by social media platforms with over 50 lakh users. All the three personnel have to be residents in India.

India's coal import rises 20 pc in May

New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI) India's coal import rose 20.4 per cent to 19.92 million tonnes (MT) in the month of May.

The country had imported 16.54 MT of coal in May last fiscal, according to data compiled by mjunction Services.

"On a year-on-year basis, however, India's coal and coke imports in May 2021 were up 20.4 per cent as against 16.54 MT clocked in May 2020," it said.

Import volumes of dry-fuel, it said, are expected to remain subdued in the ongoing monsoon season on account of lower demand, firm prices and high freight rates.

India: BJP minister on inflation, says no happiness in life without problems

Chhatarpur (MP), Jul 10 (PTI) Putting a philosophical spin on inflation, Madhya Pradesh minister Om Prakash Sakhlecha said here on Saturday that without problems, happiness in life can not be savored.

"In life, problems give us the idea of happiness. If there is no problem, there is no sense of happiness," said Sankhlecha, the minister for MSME, Science and Technology.

India: Cloudy sky brings litte rains with intense humidity in Kanpur

Kanpur: Considerable cloudiness brings rains but it remained for more than half hours. The humidity is still prevailing. 

The rains began after 3 p.m. and it was quite patchy at some spots while there was a little heavier rain in other areas.

Whatever quantity of rains on Saturday afternoon happened did not help provide relief at least from humidity to the residents.

The clouds pervade but the possibility of rains looks dim. Some state: "It will rain in the night. Let us wait."

India: IAS officer arrested in MP for 'forging' court orders

Indore, Jul 11 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Police have arrested an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer for allegedly forging two orders of a local court in a case of assaulting a woman in Indore, officials said on Sunday.

The accused had allegedly got promoted from the State Administrative Service to the IAS cadre with the help of one of the forged orders pertaining to his acquittal in the assault case, they said.
