India's first COVID patient tests positive again for coronavirus

Thrissur(Ker), July 13 (PTI) A woman medico, who was India's first COVID-19 case, has tested positive again for the virus, health authorities said here on Tuesday.

"She is reinfected with COVID-19. Her RT-PCR is positive, antigen is negative. She is asymptomatic," Thrissur DMO Dr K J Reena told PTI.

Her samples were tested as she was prepared to go to New Delhi for study purposes.

Then the RT-PCRresult turned out to be positive, she said.

The woman is presently at home and "she is OK," the doctor said.

India: Interfaith marriage ceremony called off in Maha after protests

Mumbai, Jul 13 (PTI) Buckling under pressure from their Hindu community members, parents of a 28-year-old woman in Maharashtra's Nashik district have called off her marriage ceremony with a Muslim man, sources said.

In a letter to the community body, the woman's father, a jeweller, said they decided not to go ahead with the July 18 wedding ceremony due to the present situation', referring to the protests on social media after the wedding invitation card went viral.

India: Azam Khan, son discharged from hospital after recovering from Covid; back to jail

Lucknow, Jul 13 (PTI) Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Khan were discharged from a hospital here Tuesday after recovering from COVID-19 and are being taken to the Sitapur district jail where they were lodged in various cases before being hospitalised, officials said.

The 72-year-old Rampur Lok Sabha MP and his son (30) were admitted to the Medanta Hospital on May 9.

India: Panki flyover underpass slab bearings to be replaced after a month

Kanpur: The broken bearings of the flyover underpass slab in the Panki area will be replaced after its manufacturing in Chennai. 

The National Highways officers have finalized the manufacturing of the bearings at the Chennai-based company, as was reported.

After much work on the preparation of the design of the bearing, the manufacturing tender gets moved forward. 

It was also made clear that it would take at least one and a half months in the bearings manufacturing process.

India: Church demolished in south Delhi, members cry foul

New Delhi, July 12 (PTI) The south Delhi district administration on Monday razed a church built upon "encroached" land during a demolition drive in Chattarpur.

However, the church members termed the action "illegal", claiming that a notice was not served to vacate the premises.

The district administration, in a statement, said the church was built on the gram sabha land, which was "encroached by some people by installment of religious structures".

India: Bharatiya Kisan Union dissolves UP executive council

Ghaziabad, Jul 12 (PTI) The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), an influential farmers' group in north India, on Monday dissolved its executive councils and cells in Uttar Pradesh.

The BKU's national executive took the decision in view of an ongoing review of the union, but a revamped UP executive would be formed soon, its media in-charge Dharmendra Malik said.

India: Woman arrested for trying to sell newborn baby girl in Delhi

New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) A woman has been arrested here for allegedly trying to sell a new born, police said on Monday.

Priyanka was apprehended in an operation by police and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).

The NCPCR received information on Friday that Kavya alias Komal, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, was selling or trafficking a baby, a senior police officer said.

India: Farmers gear up for upcoming protest outside Parliament

New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) Convoys of farmers from different parts of Punjab have started their journeys towards Delhi to take part in planned protests outside the Parliament House during the monsoon session, a statement by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) said on Monday.

New Delhi, July 12 (PTI) A Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) student was awarded the prestigious EY Scholarship worth Rs 1 lakh, the varsity announced on Monday.

Besides the cash reward, the scholarship won by Kaif Ali, a fourth-year student of Bachelor of Architecture (B Arch), also includes an opportunity to earn industry-recognised digital credentials on future-focussed skills and a two-month internship with Ernst & Young (EY) in a service line of his choice.

India: Local TMC leader shot dead in Bengal

Mangalkot (WB), Jul 12 (PTI) A local Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead on Monday by unidentified assailants when he was returning home on a two-wheeler in Mangalkot in Purba Bardhaman district, police said.

Ashim Das, the 'anchal' (area) president of the party, was shot from a close range by bike-borne miscreants around 6.30 pm, a senior police officer of the district told PTI.

Das was declared brought-dead when locals took him to a nearby hospital, he said.
