India: Ex-Punjab CM Amarinder Singh meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah

New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence here on Wednesday, raising speculation over his future plans ahead of the Assembly polls in the state.

The meeting that lasted for around 45 minutes came amid indications that Singh may be seeking the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sources said the former Punjab chief minister is learnt to have discussed the farmers' issues, besides the internal security situation in Punjab with Shah.

India: Akhilesh urges judicial probe into realtor's death case

Kanpur: Approaching the family of a deceased businessman here, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav raised the demand for a judicial probe into the incident.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Manish Gupta, the businessman was allegedly beaten to death by Gorakhpur police.  

He also insisted on that the case  should be transferred to Kanpur from Gorakhpur where senior district officials were caught on video urging the deceased's family not to pursue the matter in court.

India: Only 1 teacher managing 225 students at UP school

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 30 (PTI) A lone shikhsha mitra' is in charge of handling 225 children due to lack of teachers at a government primary school in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, an official has said.

Before the Covid-induced lockdown last year, two teachers were posted at the school in Khanpur village, Umesh Kumar, a member of district panchayat, said Wednesday.

One died while the other has been on leave, said Kumar, who has asked the district magistrate to appoint more teachers.

India: Rape accused rearrested for harassing victim in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 30 (PTI) A rape accused out on bail was re-arrested from a village here after he attempted to harass the victim in the case, police said on Thursday.

Harpal Singh, 50, had been in prison for the last five years on charges of raping the woman, aged 16 at the time of the incident.

According to Station House Officer (SHO) Radhey Shyam Yadav, the accused was released on bail few days ago.

Upon his release, he went to the victim's village that falls under Titavi police station area and tried to harass her.

India: Border incidents with China will continue till boundary agreement is reached: Army chief

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) Border incidents between India and China will continue to occur till a boundary agreement is reached between the two countries, Army Chief General M M Naravane said on Thursday.

Recent developments in Afghanistan "have definitely been the focus" of the Indian Army that continues to evaluate threat perceptions and formulate strategies accordingly, the Army chief added while addressing a gathering at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

India: Elevated road corridor on NH-34 to be a boon for Kanpur

Kanpur: A detailed project report for an elevated Ganga link expressway in the city will be readied by the Union Road Transport & Highways Ministry, according to the news.

The 30-Km proposed elevated road corridor will be stretched on National Highway-34. It would connect the city's interior areas with the Ganga barrage here.

Neeraj Srivastava, coordinator of the high-level joint development committee presented the plan to officers concerned in Delhi, he added.

The divisional commissioner regards that the project would prove to be a boon for Kanpur. 

India Reports 18,870 New COVID-19 Cases

NEW DELHI, Sept 29 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 33,716,451 today, as 18,870 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, the federal health ministry’s latest data showed

Besides, as many as 378 deaths since yesterday morning took the total death toll to 447,751.

Most of the new cases and deaths were reported from the southern state of Kerala.

There are still 282,520 active COVID-19 cases in the country, after a decline of 9,686 active cases during the past 24 hours.

India: Instructing centres offer culinary courses in Kanpur & 9 other districts

Kanpur: The Food Processing Department in Uttar Pradesh has set up Government Food Science Training Centres in 10 districts including Kanpur. Therefore the city youths have an opportunity to develop skills in culinary activities.

This kind of institute offers specialised diploma courses in a range of culinary activities to stimulate employment within the hospitality sector.

India: Sudden change in exam time keeps examinees guessing

Kanpur: Students appearing at second term examinations of a secondary school here on Wednesday were dazed to find the sudden change in the timing.

It was earlier informed that the time of the online examination will be fixed at exactly 11.20 a.m. but it started at 10.20 a.m. 

When a few students find this they even did not fail to inform those ignorant students who were sleeping.

What remained good for all the students of the class was that the subject teacher placated them by giving them full time if they were delayed in joining the classroom online.
