India: Jitin Prasada gets technical education minister in UP govt

Lucknow, Sep 27 (PTI) The charge of the Uttar Pradesh technical education department has been given to Jitin Prasada who was inducted into Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's council of ministers on Sunday after crossing over to the BJP from the Congress in June.

The allocation of the department to Prasada was announced on Twitter by Adityanath on Monday. The portfolio was earlier held by Kamal Rani Varun who succumbed to Covid on August 2 last year.

India: Maurya offers financial help to dead girl's family

Kanpur: Not only financial help but assurance of severe punishment to the accused was also given to the family members of the deceased girl by the UP deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya here.

He has visited the girl's village on Monday evening. He handed over a cheque of ten lakh to the victim's family.

He also assured the family of security. 

The girl was allegedly molested by a dairy operator in the Kalyanpur area.

India: Road in Agra renamed after late VHP leader Ashok Singhal

Agra (UP), Sep 27 (PTI) A road in Agra, known till now as 'Ghatia Azam Khan', has been renamed after late Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal, who was born in a house located on the same stretch, the city mayor said on Monday.

Agra Mayor Naveen Jain said the proposal to change the name was proposed by Jagdeesh Pachori, a corporator from Shaheed Nagar ward in Agra, and it was accepted during the 13th session of the executive committee of Agra Nagar Nigam organised in the Smart City, Agra office premises.

India: Success of Bharat Bandh has unnerved BJP

Lucknow, Sep 28 (PTI) Accusing the BJP of working in the interest of capitalists who had helped it come to power, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has said the "success" of the farmers' Bharat Bandh has unnerved the ruling party.

The Bharat Bandh was called on Monday by farmer unions to protest against the Centre's three agri laws.

In a tweet in Hindi on Monday night, the SP chief also charged that the BJP was working for those who hold its reins in their hands.

India: Life remains normal despite farmer's bandh call

Kanpur: Despite the bandh call by the farmers, the life in this business city remains normal.

They have given a bandh call to protest the farm laws.

The heavy vehicles are running on the high ways. Even the roads are not thoroughly vacant of the vehicles. The shops are also not shut down.

The online examinations of the schools were conducted in the forenoon. The students were happy at their respective answers. They have enough time to answer as many as 40 questions. Though each question has many questions.

India: Cong asks PM Modi to talk to agitating farmers

New Delhi, Sep 27 (PTI) As farmers across the country held protests as part of the Bharat Bandh, the Congress on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk to agitating farmers and listen to their legitimate grievances.

The Congress also alleged that instead of redressing the grievances of farmers, the government is trying to paint them as enemies of the country and that is why the farmers are protesting on the roads.

India: Kerala one of top 20 global ecosystems in affordable talent

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 26 (PTI) Kerala was featured in the 2021 Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) as one of the top 20 global ecosystems in terms of affordable talent, which is an encouraging development for startups in the state during the COVID pandemic, KSUM said on Sunday.

Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), in a release said the report also ranks the state as the fifth Asian Ecosystem in the affordable talent category.

India: Nitish reiterates demand for caste census, says this is in national interest

New Delhi, Sep 26 (PTI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday reiterated his demand for a caste census, saying it is in national interest and will facilitate development of the communities lagging in development.

Asked about the Centre's affidavit in the Supreme Court that virtually ruled out census on the caste lines, he told reporters that it was "absolutely not correct" but added that the matter was not directly related to the issue of caste census.

India: Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi inducts 15 ministers including 7 new faces

Chandigarh, Sep 26 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi carried out his first cabinet expansion on Sunday, inducting 15 Cabinet Ministers which included seven new entrants, as the Congress gears up to face assembly elections that are barely five months away.

The new faces in the Channi Ministry are Randeep Singh Nabha, Raj Kumar Verka, Sangat Singh Gilzian, Pargat Singh, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Gurkirat Singh Kotli.

Rana Gurjit Singh has made a comeback after resigning in 2018 from the Amrinder Singh Ministry.

India: Two get life terms in UP for raping 4-year-old girl

Bareilly (UP), Sep 26 (PTI) A special POCSO court has sentenced two persons, including a woman staff of a nursing home, to life terms in a four-year-old rape case of a minor girl in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh.

Special Judge Ram Dayal sentenced the main accused, Abhishek Sharma, and woman staff Soni of the nursing home who helped him in the crime.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on accused Sharma and Rs 50,000 on Soni while ordering the payment of half of the fine amount to the victim's parents.
