India: Minor kept hostage, gangraped in UP

Pratapgarh (UP), Sep 4 (PTI) A 14 year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped while returning home from school and gangraped by two persons, police said here on Wednesday.

The victim, a student of Class IX, was returning home when she was given lift by one Narendra Yadav on the pretext of dropping her at her home but instead taken to Allahabad, where she was kept hostage for two days, ASP (West) Dinesh Dubey said.

We do not foresee any war with Pakistan: Indian Minister Javadekar

Chandigarh, Sep 4 (PTI) Union Minister Prakash Javadekar here on Wednesday said they do not foresee any war between India and Pakistan, amid heightened tensions between the two nations after the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

"We do not foresee any war (with Pakistan)," Javadekar said when asked that a Pakistan minister has expressed apprehensions about it.

India: CPI(M) leader booked for selling booklet on Art 370

Gwalior (MP), Sep 4 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh Police has booked a local Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader for selling a booklet titled 'Dhara 370 - Setu Ya Surang' at a protest here.

The booklet on the abrogation of Article 370 was being sold at a protest organised by the Muslim Adhikar Manch to demand the cleaning of a local pond on Tuesday.

India: 30 flights cancelled at Mumbai airport, 118 delayed

Mumbai, Sep 5 (PTI) Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) here were affected for the second day with cancellation of 30 flights and another 118 getting delayed on Thursday.

As per a live flight-tracking website, 14 incoming and 16 outbound flights were cancelled on Thursday. In addition, 118 flights were delayed, including 86 departure.

In a brief statement, Mumbai International Airport Airport Ltd (MIAL) said that "operations are normal".

India: SC refuses pre-arrest bail to Chidambaram

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) In a setback to former Union minister P Chidambaram, the Supreme Court on Thursday refused to grant him pre-arrest bail in the INX Media money laundering case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate.

The top court dismissed Chidambaram's plea challenging the Delhi High Court verdict denying him anticipatory bail in the case, saying economic offence has to be dealt with differently as it affects economy of the country.

India: 17-year-old boy arrested for raping teenage girl

Ramgarh, Sep 4 (PTI) A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district for allegedly raping a teenage girl and making her pregnant, police said on Wednesday.

The officer-in-charge of women police station in Ramgarh, Menjari Birua said, the mother of the teenage girl lodged complaint with the police, alleging that the boy maintained physical relationship with her daughter for six months and later she became pregnant.

The boy was arrested on Tuesday and sent to a probation home in the neighbouring Hazaibag district, the OC said.

India: UP man held in Odisha for raping Chhattisgarh woman

Bhubaneswar, Sep 3 (PTI) The police on Tuesday arrested a top executive of a private company here for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of giving her a job.

The accused is a resident of Uttar Pradesh, while the victim hails from Chhattisgarh, a police officer said.

The incident happened here last week.

India: power tariff to increase up to 12 pc in UP

Lucknow, Sep 3 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission on Tuesday approved up to 12 per cent hike in power tariff for various categories of power consumers to make up for increased expenditure of state distribution utilities.

The commission, however, also abolished the regulatory surcharge of 4.8 per cent for state discoms, giving relief to customers from a sharp increase.

The new tariffs will come into effect from the date to be notified by the government, an official release said.
