India: Child raped by neighbour in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Sep 6 (PTI) A three-and-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a village in Chitbadgaon area here by her neighbour, police said on Friday.

The incident took place on Thursday when the minor was playing outside her house. Chandan (23) took the child to secluded place and raped her, they said.

An FIR was registered in this connection by the victim's father.

Efforts are on to nab the accused who is absconding, police added.

Chidambaram sent to Tihar jail in INX Media corruption case

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) Veteran Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram was sent to Tihar jail Thursday by a Delhi court where he will spend 14 days in judicial custody in connection with the INX Media corruption case.

Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar sent him to judicial custody till September 19.

The court allowed him to carry his medicines to jail and directed that he be kept in a separate cell in Tihar prison as he was a protectee under Z-security.

India: Rape case filed against swimming coach in Goa

Panaji/New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) A case of rape and criminal intimidation as well as for offences under the POCSO Act was registered against a swimming coach by Goa Police on Thursday.

Surajit Ganguly, a coach employed with the Goa Swimming Association (GSA), is accused of molesting a 15- year-old girl who was training under him.

India: HAL's Light Utility Helicopter clears tests in Himalayas

Bengaluru, Sept 5 (PTI) Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said on Thursday the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) designed and developed by it successfully demonstrated hot weather and high altitude capabilities in the Himalayas.

With the completion of hot and high altitude testing, the LUH has complied with all the requirements of the users and it was close to operational clearance certification, HAL Chairman and Managing Director R Madhavan said.

Indian SC allows Mehbooba Mufti's daughter to meet her in Kashmir

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's daughter to meet her in Kashmir, where she is under detention following abrogation of Article 370.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi allowed Iltija, Mufti's daughter, to meet her after she submitted in the court that she has no problem in going to her Srinagar residence but has not been able to move out freely there.

India: Bandh against Shivakumar's arrest hits life in Ramanagara

Bengaluru, Sep 5 (PTI) Normal life was hit in parts of neighbouring Ramanagara district on Thursday following a bandh called to protest the arrest of senior Karnataka Congress leader D K Shivakumar by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.

Sporadic protests were reported in places, including Channapattanna and Ramanagara, since morning, while schools and colleges remained shut in the district, under which Shivakumar's assembly segment Kanakapura is located, police said.

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday said news of an economic slowdown and the Modi government's silence on it was "very dangerous".

"Excuses and rhetoric" will not work, the Congress general secretary said on Twitter.

The government has neither a solution nor the "strength" to assure people in the country, she said.

India: Chinese army intrudes Arunachal Pradesh and constructs a wooden bridge

Itanagar, Sep 4 (PTI) The Chinese Army intruded into Arunachal Pradesh's remote Anjaw district and constructed a bridge over a stream, the local BJP MP alleged on Wednesday.

Tapir Gao claimed Chinese troops made an incursion into the Indian territory last month and built a bridge over Kiomru Nullah in Chaglagam circle.

Some local youths noticed the bridge on Tuesday.

"The area is approximately 25 km northeast of Chaglagam and is very much inside the Indian territory," Gao said.
